2005 vs. 2006 Model Changes by Year

Hello,

I'm currently in the discovery phase for purchasing a 2005+ RL. I will be buying used.

I've been doing some research on model changes by year. As expected, the Acura published changes by year are pretty obvious.

However, I've also read many threads regarding 2005 first year bugs/quarks, etc..

I came across a thread by TampaRL (https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...98&postcount=3) in which he mentions some 2006 fixes that I could not find published anywhere.

Does anyone have a definitive list of the differences between 2005 and 2006?

Thank you.

-Nick

and Tampa's thread show the basics.

For detailed changes, you can go to Acura News to chart the changes by selecting the press releases for the appropriate model year.

Thanks for your reply Neuronbob.

I found the archived 2006 RL press release. They talked about the new Technology Package and features, but did not mention any of the bug fixes that Tampa talked about.

They're not going to mention bug fixes in a press release and in the grand scheme of things, they were pretty minor compared with other makers.

Suffice it to say that '05 had some teething problems that were later fixed.

Asided from a passenger side door handle that loses some sensitivity when it's wet, my '06 has been flawless after 25k miles.

Hi GoHawks,

That was precisely my point. I was wondering if there was any somewhat official bugfix report (if it exists); but when pointed to the press release -- simply noting that it contained only the obvious 06 notes.

At any rate, I'm still looking but TampaRL's unofficial list is much appreciated.

Glad you like your 06.

Thanks.

I simply made note of the TSBs for true 'bugs' and compiled my comparison with feature behavior changes I noted from my 06 RL and what 05 owners reported here on AZ.

That list had a few surprises on there for me.

What tickles me is on another board, there is so much talk about how the 05s and 06's were such a mess? There were some bugs in the 05's but seems to me that Acura quickly adrdessed them because my mid year build 06 not only did not have any of those issues, it has not been impacted by any of the TSBs issued. But as mentioned elsewhere, I believe some of the issues with the 05s weighed in heavily on the reliability reports of the RL. Current reports seem to reflect the issues noted on the 05s that I never experienced with my 06, and likely later built models.

Do some research and you will likley find that most of the 05 issues were corrected by TSBs, and should you find an 05 that was not - get it to the dealer rather than live with it.
