2005 RL Motor Mount

I searched the forum for this but I couldn't find any so I apologize if this has been already answered.

My 2005 RL failed the Virginia inspection due to bad motor mounts (front and rear according to the inspector at Firestone).

Since I was laid off a few months ago, I need to conserve my funds as much as possible although I wouldn't skimp if needed.

So, here are the first questions. I've seen that the OEM mounts cost about $160 online, give or take a few dollars. I have also seen the items on ebay for a lot less...something like $160 for both front and rear. What are your thoughts on these ebay parts?

Also, I've seen "DEA" parts - any thoughts on these?

Firestone quoted me about $350 for labor to do both - sounds reasonable or could I negotiate down?

FYI, I am in Tysons Corner/Arlington/McLean, Virginia area.

Thank you in advance!

They just scraped off the existing sticker (expiring 1/31/15) and left it blank....no sticker....no fail sticker for that matter.

Thanks.

bastards.... you had 14 days left.

Ok... lets break this down. You get what you pay for, you go cheap and you will likely need them again next year (or sooner)

The root of your issue is that you are going to a shop that failed you for motor mounts to begin with.

350 isnt bad, but I can assure you that isnt OEM parts... The good mounts alone are 280 and labor should be closer to 500.

In short... I would get a second opinion.

Yes, that's what I thought too so I went to the VA State Police website and they have "engine mount" as one of the items to be inspected. BS or not, it's there so I need to live with it.

I just ordered the OEM parts (front and rear) so I will shop around for installation. Any suggested mechanic in this area (N. VA...Tysons, McLean, Arlington, Falls Church area)?

Thanks for you suggestions and comments.

And, for anyone who cares, just got new tires - Continental PureContact with Ecoplus from Tirerack. So far so good....

We'd like to hear more about this. If we can add the RL application to our site we'd like to.

It should be cautioned, though, RL-people, that aftermarket mounts with poly bushings WILL increase NVH pretty noticeably.

We know. Link: https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...rivers-810868/

Nice link!

I don't see why we could not get Innovative to make a bespoke right side bracket for the RL if people wanted it. We are fairly close to them.

This is what I was talking about though:

The car isn't going to be a luxury car with poly mounts in it. Innovative, XLR8, whatever. They transmit more vibes and noise, so the strength comes at a cost.

The popcorn means I am interested in how this thread unfolds. "I got my popcorn ready."

The 2G RL could use some serious aftermarket love, and I would like to see more, especially from AZ Vendors.

BTW, what are the axes in your plot?

The truth has been spoken! Any polyurethane mount is going to cause way more vibration over stock rubber mounts. I'd only recommend our XLR8 mounts if you know what you're getting into, and want the increased sportiness.

They do break in a bit after a few thousand miles, and most people report the vibrations are usually at idle.

I'll second that. Once you hit the gas and drive it's much smoother.

Front and top Motor Mounts

I know this has had some long discussion and I am not having any luck with the search feature as it brings up all the models.
The mechanic looked my car over today and said I need a new front mount and the top mount is cracking. I know someone said that the top mount is has a replacement part from another model that will last longer and just as good as the original.
The front mount is shot. I looked on Amazon and they have this part...DEA A4526HY Front Engine Mount. The cost is around $50. Will this work? Or am I looking at a headache?
Acura Parts Warehouse has both factory mounts for around $300.
Suggestions please.

Front Motor Mount

Can a new front motor mount be installed with out removing the radiator? I looked and it appears to be a very cramped space with out taking out the radiator. (my mount is broke)

Also what mount is recommended for the front and top mount? Someone said that the TL mount is better?

Motor Mount Source?

I have a broken front motor mount and the upper is starting to crack. I could spend hours digging down through old threads but I really don't have that much interest in doing that.

I looked on EBay for parts and Amazon but it all looks to be confusing as to who to buy them from. I could buy them from Tempe Acura for $421, however I really don't think I need to lay out that much cash.

The front one is a gel mount and has a vacuum fitting on it. There are replacements with out the fitting. Does it make a difference?

Who is a reputable source to go to for these motor mounts at a reasonable price? I would think that I could get a replacement set for under $200?

How have the results been? Look like stock parts and fit right in with out any issues? I would not be a happy camper if I got involved putting these in only to find out they didn't work. I went through that mess with the axles.

You know what's stupid about foregoing a search and making a new thread? The information is already here, and you are opting to ignore it in hopes that someone will come along and say it again which may not happen.

You know what's also stupid? Starting your third thread on the same topic. I merged all three into an appropriate thread with vendor options. It took me an entire 3 minutes to find all 4 on an iPhone.

Where are the motor mounts located and are they easy to visually inspect?

Is this an easily done diy?

What are the symptoms of bad mounts?

I've got 112k on the clock and I keep reading about people having issues of them failing.

Best way to determine bad mounts is to engage the parking brake, put the car in drive and hit the gas if it clunks then your front mount, side mount or both mounts are bad. Put it in reverse and do the same thing, if it does it in reverse then your back mount is bad.

Side mount is easily accessible from the passenger side of the engine. Front mount is not so easy.

I'll Check, thx. Honda dealer wants $1,050 for front and sides, Acura dealer wants $970. These seem pretty outrageous. How much are OEM parts only? I'm assuming a non-dealer mechanic can easily do the job?

OEM Acura parts will be several hundreds of dollars. You can go the route I went which was order the front and side mounts from RockAuto. The parts ran me $83 shipped and are OEM quality.

I see the fronts, but don't see the sides, only rear. How many mounts are there, 2 front, 2 side? Assuming it's the hydraulic ones? 36.99 each.

The side mount is a solid mount not a hydraulic mount. I ordered DEA A4526 and A4526HY, atleast that's the impression I'm under...

There are four mounts total? 2 front and 2 side? Not counting 2 rear for transmission.

I was also under the impression there were 3.
1. Front
2. Engine Side
3. Rear

Then again I'm still learning about these damn cars.
