I think we have a solution RL Drivers

Mounts!

They break all the time. Especially these crappy Honda mounts.

My mounts are shot and did not want to spend a ridiculous amount replacing all the mounts. I looked around and did a lot of research on better aftermarket mounts.

Solution:??????

I remember a guy supercharging a RL and a TL-S and I had a chance to meet him in person. I called his shop and asked him the differences in the RL and TL-S mounts. I know they share the same 3.5 J series engine.

He said from his memory all the mounts are similar and he may just need to shave the front mount to get an exact fit. He was 95% sure this would work. I was so close to purchasing OEM mounts but really wanted the innovative mounts.

We are going to test this within the next 2 weeks when I have some free time.

I will keep you guys updated.

I've owned several Honda's over several years and have never broken a mount or even had the inner dampening rubber disintegrate or deteriorate.

What is it about the RL or your RL that would bring you such grief?

In close to 300,000 Acura V6 miles I have lost two tranmission mounts and no motor mounts. I think it depends upon how hard the car is run.

My dealer was surprised that my engine mounts were OK at the 105k service. He expects to see mount issues after that duration so one must assume that the RL is susceptable to such a problem.

Symptoms?

What are the symptoms of bad engine mounts on the RL?
What should we look for?

I was reluctant to believe this was a common issue however majority opinion has me wondering otherwise. I have noticed recently that shifting into and out of park (brakes are either applied or parking brake is set) there is a pronounced jerk in the engine. This shouldn't be the case for a luxury vehicle.

Perhaps I spoke too soon with my comment earlier.

I mean i drive my car kind of hard at times. Just to get that rush. Its not a common thing.

But it is common for the HOnda Mounts to break

good question from above. i have about 53K miles and sometimes notice a harsh shift into gear from Park. how DO you know if the mounts are bad?

take it to a local mechanic.

They can tell by the way the engine jerks I guess.

They tell me to pop the hood. Keep my foot on the brake and add some gas.

If you aren't using the parking brake and have stopped on an incline, there will be a slight jerk getting out of Park into any other gear (which is why I always use the parking brake, regardless of road angle). This may be what you're experiencing however to BlazingGT's point, have it checked out. I'm about to do the same.

i past cars we used to use the oem mount that we had and have someone inject/fill a hard/stiff polymer to ensure the mounts would give out again and yield firmer shifts.
however that was for more performance i dont know if that might be too stiff for our application (RL) though

Talking Update!!

The car runs great!!!

Now the side mount mounting was a little different. We just had to shave the mounting part a centimeter in and it was a direct bolt up. The front mount was also a direct bolt on..

We did not do the rear because of the lack of tools. Im pretty sure the rear will bolt up also.

Well there it is fellas, the TL-S innovative mounts fit on the RL. Just with a little modification to the rear we HAVE stronger mounts!!

Just with these 2 mounts on i can feel a huge difference. They are alot sturdier.

no more shitty honda mounts!!

When can you feel a difference? When you are shifting from park to drive? Shifting at speed? Were your mounts broken?

Are they going to pre-trim them and sell the mounts as RL?

They may not pre-trim them.

A drill bit was used to open the whole for the bolt to slide all the way in for the side. The side used 3 bolts. The Innovative side used 2 bolts. So as we speak the side is being held by 2 bolts because that is what the innovative side mounts have

I'm excited and disappointed at the same time. I was waiting for your results, but you took to long so I went ahead and bought the factory set... But I will opt for this option next go around.. I believe that should be a sticky.. Being that this is a "discovery" for our RL's... An alternative to OEM... An alternative that we didn't have until now...(IMHO)

Yea I did the rear mount the day after. So I doubt it caused any real strain.

The car vibrates like crazy now when it is idling. Besides that it is smooth as butter...

Excelerate is telling me the center bolts was probably over torqued. I will have them checked today.

Vibrates while idling? Now that could be a problem...

a stiffer mount would usually lead to more vibration.

update

Torqued the bolts to 35lbs of torque and the vibration eased up a little.

The car vibrates when it is idling still. Before buying innovative mounts I knew they vibrate but I didnt think it was this much lol.

Well would I recommend these mounts:

Yes and No

Yes because of the strength and stiffness of the mounts. The engine does not move and more power is planted.

No because on a RL a person would probably want a more comfortable "shakeless" ride haha..

The vibration does not bother me much but at the end of the day I would rather have none

Great update.. So I guess that the OEM TL-S mounts should work... I doubt that they're as stiff as the innovative...

I dont see why the TL-S motor mounts would not fit.

Just remember you have to do a little modification to the side
