2005 RL electrical issues (shocker!!)

Hi all,
I have searched and searched but I can't find an answer to my questions. Sorry if they have been asked before. I recently bought a 2005 RL and I love it. At first the nav screen would not power on and there were other warning lights that came on. After reading in these forums, I discovered the issues with the exterior door handle sensors. I removed the door panels and the passenger side wiring harness was fried all the way back into the dashboard. I replaced the wiring harness completely and that fixed the original issues. I see that this is quite a frequent problem for folks so I left both door handle sensors disconnected. Now I am having new problems and I am stumped. The key fob will lock and unlock the doors just fine and it says "Welcome Driver 1" as it should but it will not open the trunk. Neither will the button on the driver's door. The only way to open it is the emergency release in the trunk. I got a new valet switch with the new wiring harness and had my mechanic put that in. At first the door button would open the trunk. I'm not sure of the chain of events exactly but he initially put the door handle sensors back on, though I told him to leave them off. It may have been while the sensor was connected that the trunk would open, though it never opened with the fob since I got it, but now it will not open at all, no matter in what position the valet switch is. In addition the "Check Keyless Access" warnings are constant and super annoying now. (I am also getting the AFS warning lights but I believe that is the real leveling sensor).

My question is whether it is possible that the driver side door handle sensor being disconnected could be causing the issues with the trunk and the Keyless Access warnings? Is there anything I can do to fix these issues? I have read where others disconnected the sensors but they did not mention the problems I am experiencing after.

Can someone please tell me how to fix these issues or at least point me in the right direction to get started? Could my mechanic have messed up the wiring harness somehow?
Thanks in advance for any feedback and tips! Have a great day.

***EDIT***
To clarify, the button above the license plate also will not open the trunk, if that info is helpful at all.

Hey well I'm kind of in a similar position, I bought my car with a non working drivers door handle(the keyless function and the led light doesn't not work), and so far THAT hasn't been an issue for me. Maybe the trunk switch is bad.
