2005 RL A/C not working!

hey everyone, so my A/C hasnt been working for the last few months, yes months, i bought the car used with no warranrty, i trusted Honda/acura, but unfortunately it went out, i havnt brought it in cause i was hoping it would just go away:x, and its been pretty cool for a while so not to much need for it either. a few days we needed all the windows down... but i did have it checked out briefly last time, and my guy said he would need to for the most of the day to check it out, and im just to busy to bring it in; and hes saying worst case i'll need a new a/c compressor, and about 1000 bucks, so i was wondering have any other owners had the same problem? the a/c wont work no matter what haha!

you should have took it to the dealer as soon as it happened, maybe they would have fixed it, its probably the A/C Stator. I purchased mine in July 2009 with 56,000, the dealer fixed it no charge. it happen a few weeks after purchase. doesn't hurt to ask the dealer about it.

The loss of AC compressor is a well-known problem in 2005 RLs. A search will provide multiple threads on the topic. You really should have gotten it fixed as soon as you noted it. I am assuming from your comments that you do not have a warranty. Therefore, the best you can do now is to prostate yourself before your dealer service department and ask for goodwill....otherwise you will be out $1000.

If you cannot get it repaired as a warranty good will gesture, do not surrender to paying out of pocket for a compressor before doing some research.

I believe a few members on here with 05RLs had just the stator replaced to rectify the problem. That repair is substantially less, I believe $350 - $500 depending on your repair vendor.

If you are stuck out of pocket, check 2 or 3 vendors and have some knowledge of the potential problem to validate the diagnosis.

The service center is too willing to replace a compressor when it may not be requires.

Search out here,,,,you will find some detail.

thanks Tampa and everyone else.

i did some research on here and found some guys just replacing the field coil and they said that worked. Cost: $85-95 bucks. so i told my mechanic who our family has been going to for over 20 years and who we have some much trust with to fix that. he didnt know the exact problem when he first checked it out but, im having it repaired today 2/11. will see if it fixes the problem, if not i will be going to the acura dealer to ask for a goodwill.

i brought it in on 2/11, and since i sleep during the day, i told him to do whatever he needs to do to fix it, well i get a call (im half asleep) and he says something along the lines that i need some belt replaced... so i said do whatever! i just left my car overnight and will pick it up today sometime 2/12. Hope it works, it's going to be getting hot here in southern california. and i will find out exactly what he does to try to fix it.

just picked her up, my a/c is finally working!
here's the lowdown: orinigally had wanted the clutch coil unit replaced($111.00) then when he was working on it he took the clutch assembly off and it broke to pieces? so he called and told me thats what needed to be replaced so did that ($293) so all in al i was charged $255 for labor. you all can do the math, sucks yes, but having it all done in one day is just easier. yes i could have gone to the acura dealer and asked for a goodwill, but thats not guaranteed and thats such a hassle going down there waiting, talking, and then if they say yes to it, im sure i would have to wait for the part to come in, get a loaner car, to much work. but also for the first time i had to enter the radio code, i've always just needed to enter the navi code and thats all it wanted, i bought the car used, and the radio was replaced back in 07 and the new radio code was not writen down in the book, so called acura client service, they told me the radio was replaced and to call the dealer, i called the dealer and the only question they asked was last 4 vin, and i got the code, very simple and easy and now my radio works haha.
