Anybody else?

I was trying out Dynolicious on my iPhone and was curious about the speed. I'm sure that with optimal conditions, I could lose another tenth of a second on the time. Far better than the 6.7 C&D recorded. This was just a single run recorded with the engine well-warmed.

I guess RLs CAN be fast.

Note: some of the other numbers are suspect. My peak HP was recorded at 506! LOL, adding over 200 hp with an intake and exhaust.

EDIT: My 1/4 mile time was 14.88 seconds. Not bad for a 4000+ pound car.

 

Are you sure you don't have a Type R sticker on the car?

 

I don't know anything about an iPhone app measuring accurate speed, but here's my best with Passport GT2.

The car will actually do 0-60 seconds in 3 seconds- in the dirt- which is why 1/4 mile is the true yard stick in determining drag strip acceleration where most are really concerned. Car A could do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and still smoke Car B that does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds in an actual stop light race which explains why 0-60.

Simple:
0-60 is time to speed, 1/4 time is time to distance.
In a race, we are concerned with time to distance.
Take your RL out in the dirt, well, actually try something with no traction like a FWD or RWD car, and punch it. Watch the 60 come up within seconds. But you went absolutely nowhere in terms of distance-you just sat there. The turtle next to you just smoked you and it will never even reach 10mph yet alone 60.

Take a 1986 Porsche 944. 0-60 around 8.3 seconds give or take. Now put in a chip and the 0-60 is now 7.5. The car is not faster, the rev limiter was raised and the 2-3 gear shift occurs at 62mph instead of 58mph. I learned this the hard way years ago when a buddy said his old Jeep could do 0-60 in 4 seconds flat. I put down a good chunk of money after inspecting his motor. He proceeded to go in the dirt and proved me wrong.

There are other factors that come into play as well which is beyond the scope of this this forum but can be searched. Ultimately, this explains why drags on television are calculated in what? 1/4 mile time and not 0-60. Who cares about 0-60 if you lost in the end?

Americans are just so stat focused and often times the incorrect stat is tossed around the dinner table. Similar to megapixels on a digital camera, magnification on a telescope, etc.

 

Well, this may seem like a revelation for you, but the technology we are using does not record the speed at the wheels.

I can flip my car upside down, punch it to 130 and my GT2 will still show "ready to go".

Your examples are very interesting, but prove absolutely nothing about our 0-60 times. We are measuring on concrete and are not judging by tire spin, but by actual acceleration.

Now the faster you accelerate, the less distance you cover.

so for 1/4, it is a measured distance. For 0-60 the goal is to reach a certain speed.

So the only difference is that 1/4 is measured in time it takes to get there plus speed, and 0-60 is guess what, time to reach the speed, minus the set distance.

So, the only difference is the distance.

1/4 allows cars to be tuned more for top speed vs initial acceleration. It gives you an indicator of how well your car does in something other than the first two gears.

I respect you as a member, but what you posted above is just blah blah blah.

Just for the record, my 1/4 mile time was 14.88 at 84.5 mph and I'll edit my OP to reflect that. I guess that's not so fast, huh?

Bob, I think it's a great idea since people are moding their cars all day long. I have not had the time to record a quarter mile since that would be tripling the speed limit of where I am.

As far as physics...physics had nothing to do with out little disagreement.

I think 470hpgs400 was confused about the way your and my devices record acceleration that's all.

Either way, keep posting your time guys and maybe I'll add 1/4 on my trip to Chicago :-)

I expect my car to do quarter in bout 14.9 with two passengers going 94mph.

84.5 is not the correct # I don't think.

1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.29 @ 92.84
In order to get the best time out of the car in the quarter we had to power brake it to 2,500 rpm with the VSA turned off, manually shifting at redline.

...what with our Racelogic VBOX test equipment having put the RL's acceleration to 60 mph at 6.7 seconds, the quarter-mile at 15.2 seconds at 94 mph, the top speed at a computer-controlled 134, and the braking distance from 70 mph in a middling 180 feet.

Acura haters...that's all I have to say about those results.

 

I ran the same app on my sons itouch. With both he and I in the car, my 05 did 7.0 seconds to 60. The hp number was something like 260, but I can't remember for sure. It seemed to have made sense though.
