nice car. perhaps in the future i'll defect to the darkside of the force.. but that will be when the M3 receives a V8 or I get an extraordinary bonus and find myself in a M5

Nice car-I drove a 545i manual before I bought my RL, and I was sorely tempted. However, the almost $20k difference in price was very hard to justify (the one I drove had almost every option except SMG, which put it at around $65k), even with the very noticeable difference in low end torque. The next week I bought my RL and I haven't looked back. Now that you have jumped, be sure to check out bimmerfest.com-it's one of the best BMW forums around.

I'd hardly say it's the dark side - it's a great car, I just can't stomach the styling. Agreed, the RL is more sedate but that's why you have a sedan and a sports car rather than trying to find the balance (though if the $$ fell in my lap I'd score that new M5 in a heartbeat). Hope it treats you well.

The current 5 series design will be dropped in just one more year. (Too many negative comments from past owners and too much mediocre press.) The new ones are supposed to really be something though, with a killer design. Too bad you didn't wait.

If you are indeed being serious, where on earth did you hear this? There's no way BMW would simply throw out the styling of the new 5er. Same story as with the 7er. Rumor had it that the 7er was going to be completely re-done a year ago, but nothing has changed significantly. If you mean a refresh, that is very much possible, but for the 5er design to be completely "dropped" is pure fiction.

The European magazine (British, actually) "CAR" had sketches of the proposed new design. And the magazine claimed that it was indeed a total rework of the current car into a "killer" new form.

I certainly must agree that, if you work hard and earn your money, you have earned the right to spend it as you choose. Congratulations on your success, getmoney1, but don't forget that the most fun you can have spending money is spending it to help others. Don't forget to blow some of that dough on worthwhile charities.
P.S. Sorry for the preachy sermon - it just seemed like a timely message given the direction that the thread was going.
