I have a 2013 RDX. When I activate the power tailgate, it closes but does not latch and then comes right back up again. I have cleared the trunk space so there is nothing that should be keeping it from latching. I can close it manually, however. I cleaned the parts off to no avail.

 

This sounds like a switch issue at the tailgate lock mechanism. Looking at an on-line diagram, there appears to be tailgate lock and closer assembly.

It likely sends a signal to a unit to tell it is not closed and the tailgate then opens. It could also be the switch in the tailgate that has latched "on" telling the lift motor to open.

Without a wiring diagram and a service manual, it is hard to tell.

You'll need a DMM to test those circuits to see if the switches work.
