Pop/clunking sound

I have a 2014 RDX and am hearing a pop/clunking sound from under the car when I start to drive forward after being in Reverse and shifting to Drive. Car is only 2 months old and I took it t the dealer this morning. The mechanic says this is a normal sound this car makes..!!?? Is anyone else hearing this noise?

Yes, I too have heard this noise when going from drive to reverse, and back again. It does not happen all the time though. I have a 2013 model. It's under warranty if it turns out to be anything more than play in the driveline.

Yup. I hear it every day as my wife leaves for work. I was concerned about it too.

I think it's normal. My 2013 RDX does it, and so did my previous 2007 RDX. I think it's something to do with the AWD.

Yeah, it's like a loud "click" right after shifting from R to D. The same thing happened in my 2004 Honda Accord 4AT. Thought it might have been a transmission issue back then but never had a problem with that car. Got my 2014 RDX last week and heard it too. This has me thinking it's just a Honda/Acura thing.

If you prefer not to hear that click sound, keep the car from moving immediately after shifting to D. Just hold the brake pedal down for a couple seconds to allow the transmission to fully engage. Based on my 10 years operating the Honda, it's not an issue.

Thanks for posting this (and all the responses!). I've heard this a lot on our 2013 with about 30k and it's been a concern of mine. But too difficult to have the wife explain or reproduce it for the dealer when she takes it in. Now I'll just file it away as another little known issue.
