Intermittent "clicking" sound, constant when idling
Hi, I'm new to this forum after having recently bought an Acura RDX 2017 Elite (58 000 km).
Problem: on two occasions when I've used my RDX, I've heard a "tick" or "click" sound that seems to come from the dash. At idle, the click sound is constant, about 1 click per second, whereas when I drive, it increases in frequency and is somewhat erratic, and then comes back to a constant click at idle when I stop.
I'm no mechanic, but it seems to be more of an elecrical/electronic issue than a mechanical one.
Otherwise, most of the time, I just start my RDX and drive it without hearing this clicking sound at all.
Yesterday night, I drove from A to B (short distance) with the clicking noise, stop the car for about 20 minutes, and then went from B to C without this clicking sound.
Thus, it's intermittent, but you do hear it when it happens. Not very loud, but audible and also annoying.
Any idea of what this might be and things to check ?
Thanks for your help,
Julien

It might be A/C servo. I have a Toyota Sienna with auto climate control. It will make noise when the a/c servo fails (the plastic arm starts slipping). I can manually control the airflow to stop the slipping in my Sienna.
Thanks for sharing your experience about a similar issue hongthan, I will certainy pay attention to this possibility, as my RDX does have auto climate control too. On the other hand, I don't know if the auto climate control can activate itself right at the start of my engine even if my ventilation system is at the "OFF" position. The only two times this clicking noise occurred, I've activated the ventilation at different levels, but it didn't change something about the "click" heard. Maybe by turning ON/OFF the A/C system may help. Will try next time. Cheers.
Julien,
We had a similar noise and it turned out to be our timing belt tensioner. Just thought I'd throw that out there. They can use a stethoscope to confirm or dismiss if the noise is coming from inside the timing belt cover.
Good luck

Thanks rosta for mentioning this.
In my case, it's a bit "puzzling", as I haven't heard that clicking sound again. I've talked to the Acura dealership that is close to my place and they'll check the noise if it shows up again. Hope it won't, but if so and I get some info about it, I'll make an update here.
Cheers,
Julien
