Handling questions

Hello:

I have a 2013 RDX with the Technology package

I have notice the following handling issues. I would like to know if they are normal or if they are defects that I should have looked at.

1) AWD handling. On gravel, unpaved roads or pavement that has the first hints of rain I have observed that there is slippage, and I have to reposition the vehicle to keep it straight. I thought this would be resolved by AWD.

2) Bumpiness. On unpaved roads there are occassionally these depressions. In cars with AWD I have driven over them slowly if they could not be avoided. When I do this I normally feel a small bounce. In the RDX when I do this it feels like the whole car is bouncing up and down.

3) Sharpness of turns. In other cars when I slow down to go into a curve, we barely feel it. In the RDX passengers comment that turns feel "harder" in the vehicle than other cars.

How much of this is "just the way it is", and how much of it can be repaired?

If I am right, you're new to SUV like me.

The SUV has a higher center of gravity and therefore #2 and #3 will be more pronounced compared to a passenger car.

For #1, I am not sure.

even tho they toned down the suspension for the 2nd gen RDX, it still is a sporty ride.

and P.S. AWD will not make up for shitty tires...
so, if you're getting slippage at the first sign of rain, your tires are at fault.

What cars are you comparing the RDX against as your point of reference? Suspension calibration and handling between vehicles can be dramatically different (even in the same vehicle class).

1. the RDX is a slip and grip type of AWD (ie it is FWD first and when those wheel slip then it goes into AWD) it is common for FWD to slide sideways when the front wheels spin (just like any other FWD car would)

2. RDX has a much softer ride than most cars do (read it's for the old people) and combine that with a higher center of gravity and the motions are more pronouced

3. what do you mean by harder? Do you mean people feel it more? IF so, that's to be expected as you are higher off the ground.

I am comparing the RDX to a subaru forester and a Volvo XC60.

I am new to part-time AWD.
