2016 Acura RDX headlight issues
2016 Acura RDX headlight issues
I bough my 2016 Acura RDX brand new. About 3 years later at 28,000 miles still under factory warranty the headlights decided to fog up horribly, you could barley see them at night. Keep in mind the car is garaged. Acura buffed them and put there “ uvcoating” on . Every time I take it in for service they have buffed more and more off every time . In 2018 I asked if they would be replaced but I was denied . Fast forward to 2022 . They are so bad it is embarrassing to drive around with. They want to charge me 4,000 dollars with out tax or installation. Taking to Acura’s corporate number they said I have 3 options. I pay for completely new headlights . They pay 5% of what it costs or leave keep buffing more off. I was wanting some of your opinion’s on this .
.
Thanks for this . The dealer is blaming it on my saying that “ at the time they offered me ceramic coating for the headlights” they never did … bought brand new recorded the conversation with the gm at Acura and when I told when at 30,000 miles they were doing this he tells me “ we don’t really have a thing called bumper to bumper “ it’s only for defective headlights only . The car was ceramic coated and the headlights still do it . I also paid $800 for a “ shim kit” for for tensioner that was covered by warranty but because they choose ethos for extended warranty they can pick and choose what they want to cover . Then To find out I paid $800 for this and it didn’t fix it . Think it’s time to trade the hog in.
That’s too bad. Extended warranties have become filled with so much “lawyer-talk they’ve become quite problematic. I have an extended warranty on my RDX, and with the amount of high end features in the Advance trim, I felt it was a good idea. I still do but I take the dealer at his word that “We really don’t have a thing called bumper-to-bumper”. Damn shame!!!
I think you do one more effort by writing a letter to the dealership and corporate outlining your issue with the headlights. Yes Acura has a 4 yr/50,000 miles warranty and you brought this to their attention before this warranty period. You have followed all their recommendation and you still have defective headlights. The solution they offered is unacceptable especially since you paid money toward a solution that didn't work.
Find out the address or email for the regional or district manager. Send the letter to the dealership (service manager and dealership manager) as well as the regional/district manager. Don't make threats but make it clear that replacing the headlights is the only acceptable solution. Again, emphasize the course of action you have taken and your extreme disappointment with the level of service you have received over the years.
If that doesn't work, trade away. Good luck.
