Hi,
I have another thread here documenting a steering pull, and have now determined it's most likely the infamous 'memory steer' that my local dealership confirms. Instead of paying them $4500 +, I would like to do the job myself, as the part is about $1250 online. The dealer has agreed to reprogram and zero reset after I install. I can find nothing on the web about doing this job, including this site. Has anybody done this job and how tough is it please?

Thank you!

I was trying to look into the issue when I still had my RDX, but I couldn't really find much about it. My wheel was always slightly off to the left in order to drive straight.

Why would you pay $1250 when you can buy it for $200?

You don't need to go to the dealer to check zero position and alignment.

Altair- thank you!! Wow... amazing.
I'll assess whether its something I want to do. Local reputable shop quoted $700 to install, which didnt seem bad.

Re: the new factory part: I know there are a variety of aftermarket option, including rebuilt, but IF this is a problematic part, with something in the gears getting worn and causing this 'memory steer', it seems I'd want to go with the highest quality part (Yes, even if it was the 'factory, high quality' part that went bad in the first place). Re: not having to go to the dealer... that's not what I've been told by everyone. Independent shops don't have the electronics to do items 35 and 36 above. It's only $125 for the dealer to do that in addition to the alignment which seems to be needed again, so didn't seem too bad, plus I can't have any chance some aftermarket part that can't be 'zeroed and cleared' by the dealer. Would be completely screwed then. I feel like for $2k or so all in, vs. the $4500 full dealer price, I'm getting a factor part installed on an otherwise reliable vehicle.

Thanks again for the write up above!

Considering that used racks are so cheap, new ones are available and on my RDX there are almost 200k and everything works perfectly, then I can suggest that this is not a problematic part at all.
You are welcom!
