Power Steering Whine

If anyone has experienced a whining or groaning sound from the power steering of your RDX (and air bubbles in the reservoir), this may be helpful.

My wife heard it twice on our 2007 RDX. Both times, it was the first run of the day, cool temperatures (the car is garaged). It went away after the engine got good and warm. So I surfed these pages to see what I could find.

I found this link in the TL community that was very helpful:

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-whine-fix-754586/

Check it out. I listed the RDX part number for the o-ring (91345-PAA-A01). Sorry, I didn't take pics, but the RDX power steering is almost identical to the TL, and easier to get to. NOTE: the o-ring part numbers for the TL and RDX are NOT the same. Look for my posts (name "wxflyer") for the RDX part number (it's 91345-PAA-A01).

Check out this web site for an exploded diagram (and part no.) for the RDX pwr. steering:

Read the entire thread. There are many good tips in there to make note of before you try this. It's not a hard fix, but it can be screwed up if you're not careful. It took me about 30 minutes, start to finish. I didn't flush the pwr. str. reservoir, but I removed as much as I could (about 6 oz.) w/ a turkey baster. If you want to flush out the old fluid and replace w/new, try this thread on the TL pages:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...steering+flush

To sum up, I replaced the o-ring, put it all back together, and added Honda pwr str fluid. I haven't heard the awful whining noise since. So hopefully this is a fix.

Good luck!
John

This forum has helped me out a lot. My RDX moans started this winter but have progressed into the summer. I have changed the input o-ring out and it still makes the moan so Im going to try replacing the fluid. I hope this helps because I really dont want to replace the pump unless I absolutely know it necessary!!

Thanks a bunch~

So lets get this correct people. The O ring that was replaced was on the inlet to the pump, which is on the forward part of the pump where the attached hose routes to the bottom of the steering reservoir. Only 1 10bolt holds it in place. This o ring part # is 91345-RDA-A01.

The part no. referred to by the OP (91345-PAA-A01) is for the pressure control valve and is not the part needed to remedy this problem!

Also note that the O ring that seals the outlet hose (on top of the pump that routes to the steering rack) part # is 91370-SV4-000.

Reviving an old thread here....

I flushed the power steering fluid, replaced the power steering fluid resevoir, inlet ring, and outlet ring on my 2005 Acura TL a few years ago and my whine was completely resolved.

I'm going to flush my wife's 2007 RDX power steering fluid in a few weeks and will be doing the same for preventative mainentance. I don't have any whine yet, but they're such cheap parts and it's so easy to do.
