17 RDX Heater Unit Sub Assembly ISSUE

Backstory: Passenger-side air flow is hot while driver-side air is dictated by whatever the climate control is set at. The passenger side air stays hot no matter what I do.

Shop Visit #1: Diagnostic was run and an error code regarding the passenger side air mix motor came up. A new air mix control motor was ordered.

Shop Visit #2: The glove box and trim pieces were removed to access the passenger-side air mix motor. It was noticed that the gear coming off of the heater unit would not spin freely and had some broken teeth. Shop is recommending replacing the entire heater unit sub-assembly.

Has anyone ever seen or heard about this issue before? I'm being quoted $1.9k to replace the heater unit since the entire dashboard needs to be removed... HELP!!

yeah that sounds about right, it's been brought up before on other model Acuras as a "blend door" or "air mix" door.

You're saying that Acura calls it an "air mix" issue even though its the Heater Unit Assembly?

That's right, blend doors do not change separately, you need to replace the entire assembly.
