'16 RDX brake squeek / low pitch groan
Only 700 miles. Has anyone experienced low pitch brake squeek / groan at low speed braking? It happened randomly tonight. Parked the car for about 1.5 hours , resumed driving and break squeel went away. Gonna keep a close eye/ear to this. :/
I searched and found some old threads that sound similar to what I'm experiencing. Hoping this'll go away after the brakes are "broken in". Although per manual it should've been broken in after 300 miles.

Mine started around 2000 miles (now at 4200) and is intermittent. More often than not I get the grinding/groaning (a deep sound) at low speed braking. I took it in once and it wasn't doing it that day - I couldn't believe it. It is now to the point that it's almost all the time. The dealer is about an hour away from me and I may take it in again the next time I'm in the area.

The brake squeal issue has been around since the 2013 models first hit the road. I can't believe Acura has not fixed this problem yet. There's a total lack of quality control with these cars.

I didn't know it had been around that long, but am not surprised. Hondas/Acuras have been known for many years for their road and wind noise (the RDX has plenty of wind noise, but they did get rid of the road noise). There are many midsized cars that have the same or more features than our RDX advance and a number of midsized sedans that have interiors nicer than our RDX advance (Nissan Altima comes to mind immediately). People have been complaining about not being able to transfer music from an mp3 or ipod to the acura hard drive for years (and NO!, it's not a legal issue) like some of the other manufacturers (GM and Chrysler I know have been doing it for several years).
I think acura makes an okay car, but it's not really anything special. I think Honda builds it because they see a need to offer something a cut above the average Honda like its competitors. But I honestly believe that acura is not a priority for Honda at all. In the premium market, I think the RDX is an "also ran".

Thank you EE4Life. I took mine in once for the brake squeeling/grinding and the day I took it in it wasn't making the noise. The service writer, however, acted as though they had never heard of this issue. The dealership is about an hour from me, but the next time I head that way I plan to take this info with me.

fix it yourself
loosen lugs
jack car up
remove wheel
remove bottom caliper bolt
swing caliper up
remove pad
use copper based anti seize and put some on every single part where metal to metal contact is made (not including rotor and pad surface) This means
pad ears
shims
caliper piston where it makes contact with pad
back of pad where it makes contact with caliper
I go as far as to remove the shims from the bracket and slather that area up as well
Have NEVER had brakes squeak, pop, etc. The only time I have heard squeal is when the wear indicator was doing its job.

lol ok so what do you do when the car is OUT of warranty.... yeah though so....
one of the benefits of actually listening to people that are trying to help you is that we typically know how to permanently fix the problem....
I don't buy new $40+K cars to have problems with them that should NEVER happen in the first place.

oh, that's right, you need someone to hold your hand because you lack the ability to use google and use the most basic of hand tools... and yes the previous comment was directed towards you....
I had the idea that you were reasonably smart....

I was a pediatric nurse (now retired) and my wife is a retired dentist. We didn't use those tools in peds and I never saw them around her office. Sorry to disappoint you.
And as I lack intelligence and the ability to use google, perhaps you could give me the entire list of acura's shortcomings that I should take care of so as not to have to ask the dealership to perform, but can seek someone who is intelligent and competent to handle. Thanks in advance.

2016 RDX Brake Noise
I've been having a lot of issues with brake noise with my 2016 Acura RDX. My car only has 6,700 miles on it and the noise has been occurring for the last ~2k or so. I've taken the car into 2 separate dealerships in the Seattle area and haven't had much luck. The first time I took it in, they replaced the front two rotors and brakes. But the noise came back pretty soon after. It seems like the noise would happen after I've driven about 20-30 min in stop and go traffic. The second dealership in Seattle hasn't been able to replicate it so they aren't able to fix it...
I was able to record the brake sound (attached). Anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty disappointed with the quality of the car and Acura's service...

I made an appointment with my dealer to investigate the brake noise. I suggested over the phone that there may be a faulty part which may be replaced under warranty. The guy sounded as if I'm drunk. Of course he hasn't heard anything about a brake rotor being replaced under warranty. For those who got it replaced, did you take a print out of the TSB to show them? My noise is there pretty much only in the morning or evening when I start the car and move and break slowly. I'm almost convinced that by the time I reach the dealer 40 minutes away it won't sound a peep. Not sure how to approach the problem now.

I just joined this site (obviously) and wanted to jump in this thread - I recently purchased a 2017 RDX Advance pack AWD for my wife, it has about 8k miles on it so far, and it squeaks when braking. It's done so almost from the beginning. We've taken it to our local dealership, who also acted like they'd never heard of this issue before - however we've been in contact with someone from corporate who is very aware of this issue. My wife video recorded the brakes squeaking pretty bad one time, and texted it to him. We're waiting to hear back what Acura will do.
I agree with Snorf, I didn't buy a $46k vehicle with a warranty, to work on it myself.

Update. Discs and pads replaced. Okay went to the dealer and as expected the brakes were silent before I even started. I wasn't expecting them to do anything and the service reception person hadn't heard anything about a brake disc/ pad being replaced under warranty. After the mechanic confirmed that there wasn't anything wrong with the system except that the front pads were half worn they asked me again about the particulars of noise. I was getting ready to leave when they told me that they are replacing both the front discs and pads. I couldn't be happier as I'm well past 40,000 miles and the warranty will expire at 50k. I couldn't resist taking a picture of the discs as they looked so clean and unrusted. I know it wouldn't last long though. .

I took my 16 RDX into the shop again for the same brake sound. This time they mentioned that Acura is aware of issues of very loud brake screech and potentially they might have to recall and replace the brakes and rotors. Not sure if and when that would ever happen. There's still no fix now. The dealer is still having issues replicating the issue. I showed them the video I recorded of the brake noise but they are still saying if they can't duplicate, they can't fix it.
