Selecting and playing music from iPhone

I have found that the only way to select songs, albums, playlists, etc. from an iPhone that is connected via the USB port is when the audio system is in the iPod mode (can't select in Bluetooth mode). BUT, once a selection is made, the only way I can actually hear the music is by switching to the Bluetooth mode. This is cumbersome and involves a seemingly needless step.

Am I missing something obvious or doing something wrong? Anyone else with the same issue?

Thanks in advance.

It appears that you are doing something wrong or that something is wrong with your audio system. In my 2013 RDX, if my iPod is connected via USB, then I can control it through the audio system, including selecting and listening to a song (or an album, etc). If the iPod is connected via Bluetooth, then I must select the song (or album, etc) on the iPod itself and the music on the iPod "streams" to the audio system. When connected via Bluetooth, I believe that I can essentially only control the volume through the audio system and most everything else must be controlled through the iPod itself.

Make sure your iPhone has the latest version of iOS - and then try unplugging and replugging the iPhone when both the RDX and the iPhone are on. Sometimes it's just a matter of catching them both in a good mood

I think I discovered the solution. When I plug the iPhone into the USB connector and tap the music app, there is a choice on the phone screen between dock connector (e.g., USB) or Handsfree link (Bluetooth). Selecting dock connector gives total control of selection and playback in the iPod/USB mode. And it doesn't sever the Bluetooth connection for the phone. Thanks for the comments.

Also, I've noticed the music sounds clearer and louder (at the same volume setting) through the USB as compared to the bluetooth. I only will listen to music using the USB.
