New 2016 RDX Tech Issues

I just leased a 2016 RDX with Tech for my wife. This car replaced her 2013 RDX Base. The 2013 was a good car, the '16 I'm not so sure....

Picked up the car on Saturday and on Sunday the HFL refused to pick up an incoming call. Within a few minutes of that happening the entire center stack went in to lockdown. No radio, No Nav, No Phone, and the climate head wasn't working either. My wife shut the car down, waited a second and restarted it. Everything functioned normally.

This morning (Monday) an outgoing call was placed and the call suddenly cut out. The center stack functioned normally.

Now I have 2 questions: #1 Does the TSB posted about the HFL cutting out apply to the 2016 TECH and #2 Has anyone had the center stack go in to lockdown with no button response on the hard or soft screen keys?

The car has 135 miles on it (48 hours old) and I really don't want to have go in for service if there is anything like a reset that I can do.

Thank you.

Haven't had any issues with my wife's. Everything functions properly. We have the 2016 Advance though.

Have had no issues with mine. The TSB that is posted elsewhere on this site describes the set-up procedure the dealership should have performed before delivering your car to you.

Sluggish Tech

I have an 2016 RDX Advanced Package. I'm not happy with how sluggish the tech is and how poorly the voice activation for placing phone calls works (or doesn't as the case is).

The dealer admitted that the tech was sluggish and that the HFL Voice commands for placing calls do not work well. He suggested that I use SIRI to place my calls, since I have an iPhone. That actually works well.

The point is that the tech on the Advanced Package is slow and not what it should be. There is no ETA for a software or processor replacement to fix the issues.

Thank you everyone. Car is going on Wednesday with a laundry list of problems with this whole system. If they can't fix it in a couple reasonable attempts it will go to lemon law as I will not keep a car that performs this bad. At 350 Miles, this car is too new to have this much wrong with it. In any event I'll let you guys know what happens. While the phone dropping out we can live with, but with the heater and defroster going on lockdown at will, that just cannot be.

Yes there is a fix. You have to replace outdated IDE HDD that they use in RDX with a newer SSD. It can be done, but I could not find anything on the forum about it. BMW is using the same outdated HDD and one guy replaced his with SSD and it improved performance. Here is his writeup:

Hi all, since this is a fairly new thread I was hoping to see if anyone had a tear down write-up on how to access the 2016 RDX' HDD - ours is having a host of problems and I have a spare SSD laying around...Thanks!

There is still not update to the sluggish tech and poor voice command recognition on my 2016 RDX Advanced. Client relations says the car works as it should and as designed. There is not update coming or they certainly won't tell me for sure if one is coming or when. I'm very disappointed in the 2016 RDX Advanced from a tech standpoint. The car drives great but the tech is certainly not advanced from a tech standpoint. The BMW X3, Audi Q5 , Lexus NX and the Lincoln MKC are better. Acura positions this car as a luxury brand to compete with these brands but they don't. I FEEL RIPPED OFF!
