2016 RDX engine

Does the 2016 use the same engine as the latest V6 Honda Accord. Wanted to order a short ram intake for a 2013+ Accord to install in the RDX

Same engine. Same horsepower. Same torque. Different fuel (premium for RDX).

Will be trying this out, I know most people can care less about performance on a family suv but will keep you posted

Which one are you looking at? Any proven performance boost?

Worth a shot. Mounting point may be different as well as the bends. Keep us posted.

I've been hot rodding cars for a long time.... the easiest and most efficient way to boost one of these 3.0L 4V engines is a turbo or two.

I'd suggest running a high quality full synthetic and slightly more viscous oil (5-30). Run a one step colder plug and reduce the gap by 0.005"/0.127mm. You'll need to step up the fuel injector size and maybe add a higher flow pump. Or maybe the ken bell boost-a-pump.

I'm not sure how much the stock tranny can take in one of these but HPD could probably advise you on what to do for the power level you want to run.

Now most likely you just want a small boost... in that case you could probably get away with all stock parts if you kept the boost down under 8psi. IMO for an everyday street car.. I'd go small on the turbo and focus on bottom end torque. You'd enjoy it much more than a larger turbo that you have to rev pretty high to really get into the boost.

I don't see anyone running a turbo on the 2nd gen RDX. A lot of people upgraded their 1st gen RDX since it came factory with the turbo. I prefer the 3.5L V6 > 2.4L Turbo. Not anywhere near the same aftermarket options though.

I am on some other forum try to get a used short ram and will be putting a AEM DRY flow filter, as for performance they claim about 8-10 whp on accords so I'm assuming I should see similar result. I wish someone just maid one for the 2nd gen RDX

It seems Acura ties up some HP in the exhaust systems (primary/secondary cats, j-pipes, headers) and a little bit with intake/throttle bodies. I'm down about 20-30hp on my 08 RDX because of the restriction on the 1st OEM cat after the turbo. Acura is getting 310 HP from the 3.5L RLX engine. There might be just an in/out breathing issue to bump the RDX to MDX or even RLX numbers?

I'm pretty sure another reason is that the RDX doesn't have direct-injection unlike the MDX, RLX, TLX & even the new Accord.

I thought the current accord has the same engine as ours which is not direct injection, I'm trying to negotiate a used short ram intake from a 2014 accord touring model.

Yup the J35 & K24 in the new Accords both have DI. I have a feeling that's what the part of the Earth Dreams engines Honda is starting to put out

On honda website it only shows the 4 cylinder which I believe is not a k-series any more as the only direct injection. V6 is still multi port

they would have to prove that it causes engine damage if u had a failure. I am still looking for a used one trying not to spend 275-300 on something that might not fit. I got out bid on the accord forums for a used one.

Of course. You can kiss that portion of your warranty bye bye - they might actually make a good case for voiding your entire warranty.

it does not void your warranty, they need proof it was the cause. I had a rsx back in 2004 with Intake, and catback exhaust my third gear was shot by the time i hit 27000 and it was covered by warranty.

now if u had a cold air that sucked up water and hydro locked the motor i can see the car manufacture denying your warranty, but for a short ram with a quality no way. Some car manufacture offer intakes and exhaust system as options.

Any luck on that short ram intake? I've been looking for one myself. I wonder if the K&N Typhoon one for the 2013 RDX would fit ours?

There's not much out there unfortunately =(

Tom, please keep us posted if the one you were looking at for the Accords fits. I'd be very interested in this. Thanks!

why would one want a short ram intake anyway??

the J-series engine, which is found in the 2016 RDX is known to be heat soaked. substituting the superb factory engineered intake for a short ram intake will suck up ALL the hot air from the engine.
why spend money to reverse engineer what the honda team did?
