Creating a route via Acuralink
Creating a route via Acuralink
I am new to Acura and new to the forum. We have a 2016 RDX with Tech and Acurawatch.
Just read some of the opinions on the Nav system. Not very nice, but I am experiencing some similar great disappointment.
My experience and background involves Garmin GPSs and their desktop PC programs Mapsource and now Basecamp. I can sit at my PC and carefully find waypoints and create a route. The exact route I want to take. Then I easily download the waypoints and route (now called trips) to my Garmin GPS.
The 2 Garmins I have now are the BMW Navigator V (for the motorcycle) and the RV760 (for the truck towing the fifth wheel).
I am on a trial of Acuralink. I was hoping Acuralink will do the same as above.
I think NOT. Can anyone say otherwise and tell me how?
On Acuralink, I tried finding several big businesses in town, and it could not find them. That shocked me.
Another solution would be: Can I take the GPX file that the Garmin Basecamp program creates, and download it to the Acura Nav?
And another solution is to put the Garmin RV760 in the Acura when needed.
Thanks in advance!

The Acura manual says you can import waypoints as either CSV or KML files. I have done this, and it works fine for individual waypoints.
I just took a quick look at Basecamp, and found that it does let you select a route and export it as a KML file. I looked at the KML file with notepad and it seems that all the waypoints for the entire route are included.
I guess the next step is to import this "route KML" file into the Acura and see if it works.
Although the NAV system lets me manually create a route from multiple waypoints I have not found any way to save the route for future use. Becuase of this fact I really doubt if the route import will work. But it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

RDX Rick,
Thanks for the input. I took an existing set of waypoints and a route in Basecamp and exported it to a KML file on a USB drive. The RDX hung while trying to import the POIs. I went back to Basecamp and exported in CSV format. The RDX didn't like the format of the CSV file, but this time, it successfully imported the KML file.
The RDX navigation does not see the route, only the waypoints.
So, to create a route in the RDX, you have to add the waypoints, one by one, in sequence, to a RDX Nav specific route.
Terrible!!!!
So, my goal of using Acuralink to send waypoints and a route to the RDX is half successful. I can find waypoints in Acuralink, and send them to the RDX, but not routes.
Awful.
Cheers,
