Windshield Replacement

Just general information for anyone who needs a windshield replaced. If you have lane keeping and rain sensing wipers, it ain't cheap. Around $300 for the windshield and another $600 or so for the camera realignment (3 1/2 shop hours). We took a rock hit right on the frame at Thanksgiving. The length of the crack has approximately tripled since then. Fortuitous, since I'll be upgrading the vehicle next month. Lane keeping never has worked very well - it will constantly drift out of the lane to the left with ineffective steering and blow the horn.. I haven't convinced the dealer they needed to look at it. Maybe this will help.

Just had my windshield replaced also

Just had mine replaced today. Took a rock from a vehicle in front of me at about 45 mph. The rock hit almost dead center and a couple of inches from the bottom. The cracks then went in both directions almost clear to each pillar. I filed my claim online with Nationwide and while doing so, I chose to to go with their preferred setup with Safelite. The whole claim was coordinated between Nationwide and Safelite electronically after I hit the submit button. All that I had to do was select a time to bring it in to Safelite as the dual-stage calibration is done by Safelite in their shop and then again on the road. My local Acura dealer does not do windshield replacement.

Parts (replacement windshield & install kit, rain sensor kit, etc) were $350, labor $676 ($500 of that was for dual re-calibration) plus taxes. Insurance paid $1000 and my cost was $100 deductible. I also paid $36 for two new wiper blades. The replacement windshield is a Pilkington, EZ-Kool Plus. The whole process was very quick and well done. It took about 2 hours from beginning of the appointment until driving it away. It's great to have a nice brand new windshield that doesn't look like it had been sandblasted in a sand storm! I had considered paying to have it replaced myself because it was hard to see through all of the pock marks when driving into the sun, however, the rock saved me the cost of having to pay for it myself.

Just a quick update on the Pilkington EZ-Kool Plus replacement windshield. Since it was new and had not been exposed to any contaminants, I treated it with Hendlex Glass Pro nano coating. Haven't driven in any rain or gotten slimmed with any bird poop yet, so we'll see how it does. The glass seems to have a slight blueish tint to it that I hadn't noticed with the OE Acura windshield. It seems to be a bit cooler in the dash area when the sun glares into it. Also it seems to be as quiet or quieter than the OE windshield. These are subjective impressions as I haven't done any before and after testing measurements with thermometers or sound equipment. The LKAS, etc. works great if not a bit better than with the OE windshield. So far I am pleased with the windshield, haven't seen any imperfections in the glass. The gaskets, fit and installation seem to be fine.

Its too bad our own insurance has to pay for an issue initiated by another vehicle. So far so good in 45+ years of driving (I don't tailgate), but every time I do get a rock strike that you can really hear, its off a tractor-trailer or a dump truck passing me.

I have a crack in the about the same location only a couple of inches lower on my 2016. It started out about 3" then quickly spread to about 15". That was 2 years ago and luckily it hasn't spread any farther. I doubt I will ever get the windshield replaced but if I do I'm definitely going to pass on the camera alignment since I never use lane keep and have had lane departure turned off since I purchased the vehicle in 2015. $600 is ridiculous.

Do you know if the windshields of 2013-2015 (73111-TX4-A02) and 2016-2018 (73111-TX4-A04 - BASE) are the same?
