I purchased new suspension pieces 3 years ago for mt 2014 Tech RDX, as I was (slightly) displeased with noise and feel of the suspension overall. I finally mounted the struts 2 years ago, although I even then I didn't feel any major differences. The vehicle had 140K miles then, I think. I have the shocks for the rear, but have not felt the need to mount them. In general, I think you can tell (by feel, and by sound) when you need to replace these parts. The car will let you know if there is significant failure.

KYB shocks and struts replaced on my 2015 rdx at about 90k miles. Great parts and much better than OEM in my book. The struts will have to use your old springs and also replace the top strut mounts when doing the work
This is also a cost savings . Surprisingly so.
