VCM Muzzler II
VCM Muzzler II
Any users with the VCM Muzzler II that can comment on your experience with the unit on 2nd Generation RDX or similar vehicles?
Any problems?
I hear that I may only need to use the Blue resister and not need to change.

I recently added the S-VCM unit made in Canada on my 2018 AWD. A recent highway trip of 250 miles I got 26 MPG / 8.9 litres /100 km at 65 MPH, regular gas.
On the 2018 there is no Eco light so no indication it is working or not.
Is there any way of knowing if the unit is active on the models without the Eco light?

Thanks I may disconnect it to see temp guage without VCM and note the reading. I never really felt the VCM kicking in, I read somewhere they refined the software on the newer V6 models. Would I notice the VCM being active more on highway or city?

drive the vehicle today and just look at temp gauge after 10 mins of driving it will be a smidge below the middle. Cuz normally it should goto the middle without the vcm
also on my vehicle the temp gauge stays below cold or slightly lower then normal at cold start too. It takes more time for it to move compared to a normal vehicle so that’s another method
lastly put the dashboard onto instant fuel economy and drive on a straight road at 50 mph with constant throttle. After a few seconds you won’t see the instant economy go above 40 mpg it should technically stay around the 25-30 range. This is all with constant throttle, if you drop throttle Ofc it will go to the 40+ range. But if vcm is truly off then you won’t get the jump to 40+ fuel economy
Plug it in, it's Bluetooth, so add the "Car Scanner App" to your phone and you'll be able to see several basic operating parameters of your RDX...to include temp. The app is easily configurable to the info you want to display.
IMO, trying to read the analog temp gauge for change with / without VCM is nuanced and difficult. With the scanner you'll be able to see the precise temp, the sensor is sending to the ECU.
After getting your vehicle up to operating temp, if the S-VCM Controller is operational...you'll see a temp of 165.2. If the S-VCM Controller is not working, you'll see a temp between 185-190 which is normal operating temp.
JJRPHS,
The scan tool you linked is what I need to see if my S-VCM is working. Except I need something that reads out the temperature on the scan tool or Bluetooths it over to an iPhone. My temperature gage reads the same with S-VCM hooked up or not. I suspect these gages have a healthy dead-end but I thought I would see something. No eco light on wife's 2017 RDX and I can't say I've ever been able to feel the VCM kick in or off. Any suggestions?

There's more than one OBDII app for phones out there..."Car Scanner" is free and iPhone compatible (though I'm Android). IMO, there's more features with "Car Scanner" than other free OBDII apps.
Car Scanner App - iPhone
and
Car Scanner App - Android
jjrphs,
I loaded the app on my iphone and purchased an OBDII bluetooth connector from Amazon`and now can read all the cars data. I didn't cheap out on the bluetooth connector and got the OBDII Link CX model CX101. What a fun little new toy. Hooked it up to the wife's RDX with S-VCM installed and the temp went up to exactly 165.2F like you said and steady there. Then I hooked it up to my TL (no VCM) and it warmed up to 177-180 while I drove around with air flow from the speed of the car cooling the radiator (75 degrees here in SC today). When I pulled into the driveway, left the car running, the temp eased up to 205, then I heard the cooling fans come on in low and cooled the temp down to 195 before I shut the car off.
I am going to play with this some more on the RDX when my wife gets home observing the cooling fan operation both with S-VCM hooked up, then with it disabled.
