SUV back backseat windows styling

While this is a very minor detail I recently noticed that some vehicles have what I call a split rear seat window. The RDX has this where the rear seat window is split into a functional window and then has a window bar for a pane of glass that is not a move-able window. The BMWs and Benz's also have this. I noticed the new MDX, Audi's, Mazdas, and Lexus SUVs don't have this split window but 1 pane of glass that is a functional window. I like the MDX style and hope that Acura makes this adjustment to the RDX when they do the refresh on the vehicle.

I think it is a sleeker and sportier look to have the MDX / Audi style because the split back window typically has a vertical barrier that gives the vehicle a boxier look from the side.

From those in the know, is there a difference in functionality by having 1 pane of glass vs 2 in the back seat window?

Style vs. function.

A split back window in the rear door allows it to be rolled down all the way. Without the split (and the small fixed pane), it's not possible in most vehicles due to the wheel well intrusion.

I'm not sure if the rear windows of the MDX go down all the way. Looking at the picture, I'd be surprised if it does.

Looks like two panes of glass...just not a pronounce pillar support visible on the outside. Huge safety issue if that triangular window operates...I'd be completely surprised.
