Hoping to get some advice on how to best fix/conceal a scratch on the black plastic appliqué trim near my driver side door window. Long story short, brought the RDX into the dealer for an unrelated issue, agreed to the complimentary wash (which I will never do again - despite the fact that they assured me it was a hand wash) and noticed the scratch when the car was ready for me
I attached a pic, but not sure if it is clear enough for review.
It is still pretty bright out and the plastic has a sheen that is making it hard for the scratch to show - but, for reference, I can feel it just slightly with my finger nail.
I like to think I would not be as obsessive over this if the car was not a mere month old, but my better judgment tells me otherwise...
because of the "textured plastic" you cant remove the scratch by machine polish. you will have to replace the whole piece
p.s. the first cut is the deepest. only you will see that spot and then over time, you wont notice it any more.
Stick to your guns about them not washing it any more!!!!!

+1
Anything you try to fix it will only make it look worse. Products like back-to-black and the like will only leave a greasy residue and make it stand out more.
Thanks justnspace and ceb -- I think I'm just more annoyed that it happened at the dealership!
I suppose it is inevitable though!
The BMW dealer tried to give my car back with a dinner plate sized dent on the bumper. the dealer said "it was there" until I showed him the paint transfer on his column in the "no customer's allowed" area.
HAHA I wonder if the dealerships really think the owners have no idea about the state of their cars when they bring them in for service...
Something similar happened with my 2013 ILX (different dealership) and the dealer didn't even question my assertions - they took care of the damage with no issue... think that's why I'm so bummed/annoyed at this whole incident. The service advisor looked at me like I was crazy and told me "there was no way they could have done that"... Um?

Problem is that there are plenty of customers willing to blame the dealership for stuff they did. With cameras everywhere, big damage is easily seen, but stuff like this cant be seen on camera. Maybe the guy was holding a screwdriver when he got in the car to move it.
This is an easy fix if you decide to swap out the piece a few weeks down the road. You're obsessing over it today and the rest of the week, but by next week you won't think about it and it'll only be mildly annoying when you see it in a few weeks.
A week after I clearbra'd my TSX, I hit a booster seat in the middle of the road, at night, in the rain. It took a pea sized chunk out of the clearbra at the very bottom of the lip. No paint damage. It bothered me for about a week. Now, a half year later I'm not sure that I could find it.

So true about the obsessing part... I know these things are inevitable but man do they suck when they happen! Glad to know I'm in good company though

CEB, can you post some information on changing the part? Thanks
