Remote start installation on 2017 RDX

Hi,
I have been thinking of installing OEM remote start on my 2017 RDX Tech. My DIY brain decided to take the initiative to install them by myself after looking at the quote from my local dealership. They were generous enough to provide me with the part number "72147-TX4-A61'. I would be very much grateful if you can share your experience with this specific part or if you know any how-to-do content.

I would research this forum for information; I have seen a number of references by people who have had this procedure done, to seemingly unrelated failures. I wish I could be more specific, but I have not installed a remote start (although I bought one that is not the OEM, I have not been able to find anyone who will install it, and my hands have proven to be too big for some of the finer 9wiring) portions of the job.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my thread. Before posting here I have exhausted these great suggestions you mentioned above. Once you install the one you bought, please share the success story.

You don't have to use an OEM remote starter for your RDX.

I would check prices at a local electronic store or even Best Buy to install an aftermarket remote starter. My guess is there is nothing special about the OEM starter other than it comes with the required harnesses for RDX which an outside installer will provide. Many dealers will outsource this kind of job to these same installers.

Thank you for pointing that out. I found a couple of retailers that have the installation service. So, I am leaning towards your suggestion @dtownfb. As you can tell, I am an amateur when it comes to remote starters. If we ignore the cost for both, is there any benefit of installing the OEM over the aftermarket?

The short answer is no. since you're installing the remote starter now as opposed to buying installed from the factory, the most important part is the installer.

I had a remote starter installed last year on my 2013 Sienna, I picked an installer who has been in the sale location for 20 years. He installs these units all the time for dealerships. He picked the unit he believed was the most reliable and had the features I wanted. Plus I can still use my factory fob. His warranty is for the lifetime you own your car. I've also had him do other work since then and planning to install a new radio and backup camera in my daughter's car.

It seems the aftermarket would be a better choice than OEM since it involves more time and money. Thank you for explaining in a way that a novice like me can understand.
