I just got 2016 RDX and loving it. I'm also new to the forum.
I'm still in the learning phase in using the car and I understand that the hatch door opening height cannot be adjusted.

I tried to search my question before asking, but the search doesn't give me back the correct result. So, if it has been discussed before, let me know the key words or the link to it.

Here are my questions:

• Will the power gate automatically stop/reverse when the door hit any object? Will it hurt the motor?
• Would hitting the button on the hatch door or the key or inside the car stop the power gate and perhaps reverse the door

I hung a tennis ball on a string from the ceiling in my garage to touch the windshield when I drove in, only when I was sure the hatch wouldn't hit the garage door.
On our 2017 RDX, I can push and hold the release button on the hatch, which only unlocks the hatch and then I'm able to open it manually.

 

I also hung a ball from the roof, most genius idea ever. Never hit the stairs in
the garage anymore (for some reason have huge issues parking cars with really sloping hoods like my mdx, and past rdx). We had a pos beater murano and I swear I would hit the stairs daily haha.

 

Get one of those laser beam gizmos. Search "Dual Head Laser Parking Sensor AC/DC."

 

It's taking a while for me to get used to the sloping hood... when I parallel park, I'm really cautious when calculating where the front right corner is

I'll keep with the tennis ball hung from the ceiling, as being non-electronic, it'll never fail

 

This is exactly why I joined forums and love them! Thanks for sharing, had no idea they even made these. Before coming up on the ball from the roof idea I had wooden blocks on the floor, this beats both ideas.

Back in to the garage?

 

I guess I have a combination of many of these suggestions.

I always back into the garage and have several reasons for doing so.

• back many years ago when cars often wouldn't start in cold weather. Backing in allowed for easy boosting.
• Driving forward out of the garage was safer in case a child was playing or left his bicycle directly adjacent to the garage door.
• On those snowy days when the plow has left a one foot pile of snow at the end of the driveway, exiting the garage in a forward direction made it much easier to pickup speed and break through the barricade.
• The large company that I worked for insisted that all drivers back in to parking spaces

The laser is a great idea, because there is nothing hanging down for me to walk into and get tangled in. The problem with the laser is that it is a very small target to see (especially on black trim) and if you move a little to the right or left, it is even harder to locate the light. It is somewhat useful when driving in forward because the laser has to be mounted near the back half of the garage ( so the open door doesn't block it). However when backing in, there isn't a surface for the laser to hit in the rear like it would when driving in and lighting the top of the dash.

I use a golf ball instead of a tennis ball because it makes a very audible click when the rear window of the RDX hits it. It allows for both a visual and audible confirmation of the correct position.

I solved the problem of getting tangled in the string, by passing the string through an eye hook directly above the ball, and then when the ball was at the proper height, I attached the string to the top edge of the "opened" garage door. When I close the garage door, the string is pulled, causing the ball to rise to the ceiling where it is out of my way when I want to work in the garage.

 

LOL I hung the tennis ball so my wife has a target to aim for when entering the garage. This is because my Honda S2000 also occupies the garage. I want to avoid that phone call at work, "Honey, about your car....."

 

Maybe just teach her how to drive?
