Possible 2017 RDX purchase

Hey guys,

Ive been a long time observer of Acurazine. Finally registered because I wanted some advice on a possible purchase of a 2017 RDX.

Some info about my situation.

Currently leasing a 2013 Accord touring v6.(expires this November)

looking to upgrade to an suv. So we were looking at the RDX. Wife and I both love everything it offers. So I was wondering, is there any other SUV in the same price range I should take a look at? What would you guys recommend or suggest? I do have daughter who's going to turn 1 soon as well. So a growing family is in the picture.

I got a pretty good deal on the RDX. it would cost me $51400 OTD taxes in, and they would take my accord back without me having any negative equity on it. We would be doing a cash purchase.

Thanks.

That price sounds high, but not sure where you live. Depending what your priorities are, the RDX is incredibly hard to beat in its class. You will have to spend a lot more money to get anything more powerful. Our top 3 were the grand cherokee, ford edge, and the rdx when we shopped. RDX won out with the smooth V6, 6 spd tranny, and road manners. The GC has the superior interior and infotainment. The Edge is decent, but the refinement isn't there yet

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it

So I forgot to mention that I am in Canada. So that's why the price is high. Unless this price is too high even for Canada. I'm in Toronto.

Also, this price is on a 2017 rdx elite.

I feel the same way so far. At its price point, hard to beat.

I'd also look at the Cherokee (not GC) Overland. It has lots of safety features, a more refined drive system and a huge back seat - but none have the combination of features, comfort and reliability of the RDX.

I'd take a look at the Mazda --- if you can handle the less powerful motor and want to leave more $$$ in your pocket. RDX is, however, hard to beat on several fronts.

I have a 14 and will be getting into a 17 on Tuesday and we like the 14 so much I am buying it out. The 17 Elite model is very nice. I checked out the Lexus SUV's and both were well in excess of the cost of the RDX. I also looked at the Honda CRV Touring but for the price difference and features, the RDX Elite is perfect for me.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I looked hard at the CX-5, great vehicle. But missing a few things id like in a car. Lexus NX was actually 53500 before taxes, which was out of the price point and felt like it wasn't worth that much.

RDX seems to fit the budget and needs. Looks great as well, and will look good over time in my opinion.

Did any canadian RDX'ers get a better price?

everything but tax! And including a $500 rebate from Acura, although they'll come out with more as the year progresses

The Jeep Cherokee is nice with regards to design and features but the interior does feel plastic and flimsy too. Touch it with a heavy finger and you'll know what I mean. I doesn't feel that it's durable enough (for me). The RDX interior quality is solid in that respect.
The CX5 is good in every way, except it doesn't give a luxury feel to the ride. It is noisy and has too stiff suspension (feels like a commuter car) but is engaging and lovely to drive. The passengers (and your kid) may prefer the RDX in that aspect. The RDX feels nice, cushy, quiet (relatively) and powerful.

Two other cars you may want to look at might be the Kia Sorrento and the Toyota Venza. The Sorrento is a notch above the RDX with lots of features not offered on the RDX, but in the long run may not hold its value like the RDX. The Venza was last made in 2015 so you could probably get one for a pretty good price. The interior has more plastic than the RDX, but the 6 cyl drivetrain is just as powerful and far smoother.

Saying the Venza is just as powerful and smoother than the RDX is misleading. I know someone who drives a Venza and driven it myself. It has a powerful V6 at 268 horsepower but the RDX has 279 horsepower with better torque. It accelerates faster than the Venza, feels smoother, and rides better. It is far more refined than the Venza, though the Venza is a good value for the money. The RDX is the best luxury vehicle for the money. The main thing I would improve on it is highway wind noise otherwise it is a thoroughly enjoyable vehicle, especially in the fully loaded Elite trim.

If you're talking non-luxury vehicles, I would look at the Nissan Murano for a decent V6 engine and relatively refined vehicle with lots of standard equipment.

If you really want to save money, get the 2016 RDX instead of the 2017. They're essentially the same vehicle. There is a deal on right now if you pay cash for the 2016 RDX where you get $3000 off. Check out Acura.ca and when you build your vehicle, look at the final pricing in the cash portion.

Now that it is the end of May I am not sure how many 2016 RDX's are left in Canada at least in the Vancouver area. When I was shopping at the end of April for an RDX I ended up buying a 2017 RDX because the remaining selection of 2016 RDX's was severely limited.

I ended up getting the $1,000 off from Acura Canada and an additiional healthy discount from my dealer on a 2017 RDX so I was very happy - especially since it was on a 2017 lunar silver RDX which was not even available on the 2016 model !

Lunar silver is an awesome colour. I like it more than the slate silver metallic which turns bluish in the sun. I have a white diamond pearl 2016 RDX Elite, looks really cool whether it's day time or night time. Silver looks less dirty (water spots, etc.) than white when you look close up. I was going to get silver but I already have another silver vehicle so didn't want to get the same colour and white maintains it's "new" look for a long time.

Thanks for all these responses, really really appreciate it. Looks like we made the decision to go with the RDX. "Rockyboy" your input was very useful and I have to agree with you, its a great SUV for the money, great value.

One thing i'd like to ask the RDX'ers here, is the wind noise on the highway really noticeable? I am coming from a 2013 Honda Accord v6, and it had noticeable wind noise(which at times was annoying)

Rudycat, your right man. No luck with finding a 2016 rdx, all gone. I am getting some great offers on 2017's tho. I think this weekend I will be making a deal with a dealership for about 51k taxes in, and that's with them taking my car which has 6 months left on the lease.

Definitely some wind noise, I test drove the Pilot and probably just as much. I don't recall there being as much on the MDX or the XC90.

I'd say under 50MPH or 80Km/h, the wind noise is acceptable and on par with other so called luxury suvs.

Haha our other car is white so we bought a silver RDX so we wouldn't have 2 cars the same colour. Both white and silver though are much easier to keep clean than the black cars we used to have

My rdx was dark blue. One of the most absolute pain in the ass colors to keep clean. The issue with dark cars is that you cannot leave a single water droplet on the paint or else it dries up and leaves horrible water marks. Now of course on a vehicle there are a ton of crevices where water will hide until you start moving and it gets blown out over the paint and dries. My worst spot was under the tailgate and in the part where the side mirrors connect to the car. The other issues are of course scratches stick out like sore thumbs and swirl marks...don't get me started on these.

The worst part was when I put a nice coat of wax, it would absolutely pop with all sorts of metallic effects. But of course would only last a short drive.

That is why I swore off dark colors and hope my next vehicle will be white, silver, or gold.

I actually like lunar silver and that blue. The blue would be hard to maintain for sure.

We're actually gonna go with the modern steel metallic, it's a lighter version of the graphite couloir from 2016. It actually looks great under the sun.

The only annoying thing with the rdx. The mismatched fog lights. And regarding that, I was wondeRing since the elite will come with fogs, is it just a matter of switching out the bulbs. ?

That said, gold cars have about 1.7% of the overall SUV market and 3% of the "luxury SUV" market - while silver is close to 20%

Well no matter how old you are, you still got it!

I have to agree 100%, rarely if ever see gold on anything. My first car was a gold Volkswagen Touareg, you could never ever tell it was dirty, except when I took it mudding lol. My parents used to own a 2007 santa fe limited in gold and my dad would always comment on how he LOVED that it would never get dirty.

I like that silver and white never show scratches, swirl marks, and water marks. I would literally spend 3 hours cleaning my rdx every wash trying to get every last water droplet removed.

Or this - Dove gray (aka beige gray) - one of my favorite colors. I had a 280SEL 6.3 in this color and the car pictured above in the other color. I miss the 6.3

Wow, I am loving both colors, especially the first one. The issue is that most manufacturers either don't produce a gold option at all, or it comes out muddled and too brown or yellow (a.k.a fords karat gold).

I picked up my '17 RDX AWD on 5/31. I paid $35,960 before tax. Feel I got a good deal. I compared it to the Audi Q3, Lexus NX200T, Infiniti QX50 and Mercedes GLA. I kept going back to the RDX. They were all good cars with positive qualities of their own, but I felt the RDX had the best overall package. Probably would have gone with the Q3 if it were a big bigger, as it felt a bit more premium than the RDX. Very happy with my purchase so far.

$35960? Which model? did you buy in canada or US?

We signed for 2017 elite rdx, waiting for delivery in couple of weeks. Paid ~44,000 before taxes.

Got white diamond pearl exterior with parchment interior. Feel its more luxurious.

Took the paint and leather protection package as interior is parchment. Anyone else tried this and/or rustproof module?

Anyone tried bike carrier on back with back sensor as well? Do they interfere?

Depends on what "system" (protection package) the dealer is pushing. There's about a 110% chance you'd be better off elsewhere.

I am in the US and got the base AWD model. Same color combo as you. Concerned about the light interior, too, but so far so good. Did not get the protection package or anything.

How did the RDX compare to the QX50, and did you try negotiating on it?

I compared the Infiniti QX50 with the RDX. At the Infiniti dealer, found the QX50 to be too small. It's more like a wagon rather than a crossover. The horsepower is excellent (325 HP) but the fuel efficiency is bad compared to the RDX.
