OBD Reader (On-Board Diagnostic II)

Good morning/afternoon RDX'S Owners,

I have a question for those who work on their car, what does everyone use for OBD Readers? I am currently looking for that can clear (ANY) engine light codes. I have done several hours of researching, but seeing lots of pros and cons As of right now, I see this Ancel FX2000 OBD Reader willing to give this a try!

Thanks in advance!

I guess the question is what else do you plan to do with this code reader? reading and clearing the codes can be accomplished with much cheaper OBD readers. If you plan to use the other features like live data stream or O2/EVAP system tests, then get it.

Personally, I've gotten by using a $29 code reader I bought from Harbor Freight back in 2005 when I owned my 2000 Olds Intrigue. It reads and erases the codes and I used the internet to help diagnosis the problem. I've gotten to the age where I have no desire to get on the ground to fix my car. I bought my 2017 RDX because it's extremely reliable, easy to maintain and most of the problems are known.

If you want to tinker with your RDX, this code reader is a tool you should have. I'm sure it will come in handy a couple times during your ownership.

Good luck.

Hello there Dtownfb,

I have gone through a somewhat decent amount obd readers that only "just" read the code and not be able to clear codes. Just dont like going to any mechanic in my area just to have them clear the code(s). I got this vehicle recently last month I am going to be replacing most "aftermarket" parts with OEM parts that the previous owner has installed. Just having those kinds of features is nice to have in the long run.

Mine is very similar to this one on Amazon. I believe it's a Cen-Tech. I've had it for years.

Little late to the party here but for what it's worth, I have a bluetooth one and it's amazing. I think it may be limited to android OS though, no iphones. The reader itself is cheap, and you use your app of choice to connect to it(I use TORQUE PRO engine tools app) and it connects via your phone. There are a TON of options with it. Aside from viewing and clearing codes, it will give you live data (coolant temp, boost pressure, rpms, etc). You can add your own points of data to measure as well, if you're handy with technology.

I have a Bluetooth ELM327 adapter that I use, plus a J2534 pass-through cable if I would need it. Note for the ELM327 adapters, ones from China (99% of them) can be hit or miss as far as working. I had two adapters that would only work sporadically with our RDX, but they worked fine with my Audi. I decided to find a genuine ELM327 device and it works with everything I've used it on so far and also communicates faster than the eBay versions. If the adapter is <$20, it is almost certainly a knock-off, but that doesn't mean it won't work.
