No struts for rdx

I need to replace on on a 2014 rdx for clunking at 30,000 miles. So I will do both but can't find one anywhere. Told on national back order. and new ones won't go so fast. E=bay has them but why buy a strut that will fail, will wait.

Rear shocks you have OEM and KYB to pick from. For the front struts , it's only the OEM. I'm switching over to the KYB as soon as it warms up a bit more.

It is really doubtful that the front struts would need replacing at that age & mileage. I would check other items first. In some Hondas there was a service bulletin on the top strut mount,
not sure if that involved this vehicle.

Rear shocks are noted for going bad and making clunking sounds. Happened to me once, covered under warrentie.

It sounded like a sway bar bushing and there was some play on both so I changed them. Did nothing but cost me 100.00. Engine mounts were fine and every component that would rattle in the effected area was checked. Only thing left was the strut. The rattle only happens when driving slow over small bumps and can't be reproduced on a lift. All possible suspects have been ruled out.

Well the new batch of struts finally made it. The new ones are completely different so I have to change both.

The new ones were different than the ones on the car. Different animal for sure. Honda wanted 1450 for the pair. Cost me 1050 from local guy I use.

Cars been paid off a few years ago. Only 33,000 miles thousand on it. Compared to the screwing on the trade and huge depreciation on a new one it is way cheaper to do the strut change for us.

I'm nearing 110k miles on my '13 RDX and will need front struts replaced soon. Local dealer quoted $1100 for parts + labor + alignment. I will be visiting a local shop that specializes in suspension work soon for a second estimate as well, but I don't expect it to be that much cheaper than the Stealership. Based on my limited research so far, there are no aftermarket front strut options available, nor are there any front strut assembly packages available for individual purchase. The parts alone are almost $600.

DIY Strut Replacement

I recently replaced all 4 struts in my 2013 RDX by myself for around $300. Ordered these TRQ complete shock and coil kit from Amazon. Fits perfectly and I followed along a YouTube installation. All of my struts were blown and had no more hydraulic fluid before the install.

Just replaced the front struts @ 110,000 miles. Tire Rack has KYB front struts ($100 each) as well as rear shocks (did them a few months ago).

They do not have the complete assembly, so the spring and top mount need to be swapped. Not the easiest job, but the spring compressor tool is available from the big auto parts stores, as a loaner tool. Use caution on this, very powerful spring, can be dangerous.

Hardest part was reinstalling the assembly, lining up the three studs into the shock tower needed two people to hold it and align the studs.

First side took several hours, second was less than an hour. Removing the bolt for the sway bar link was a pain. The hex on the stud will hold it steady as you very slowly loosen the nut. Second time, I used vice grips on the back of the link and buzzed the bolt right off.

A jack to lift the lower control arm into place to insert the large bolts as well as the sway bar stud is normal for this type of work.

Hi All, I have a 2013 RDX I have owned since it was new and has only has ~49k miles so far. All parts are still original, but I dislike the suspension setup which has always had the noisy rumbling / juddering / vibration over rough roads. I don't think anything is worn out yet as it's not clunking or bottoming out.

I have been watching the forums and have seen the discussion around switching to KYB, OEM or even coilers. I prefer a comfortable ride and am debating which way to go if I want to reduce the noise and vibration. Have the OEMs been improved in subsequent years? If not, between the KYBs and coilers, which one would fit me best?

You can't forget that even if there's no obvious signs of wear, you have over 10 years on the factory suspension. That's a long time for things like rubber seals and other things to wear out. If an inspection reveals nothing is wrong, you'd be better off running the stock suspension for a while until something is noticeable.
