New TLX
My husband would probably want to shoot me (not literally, of course!) if I even entertained that thought! LOL. But when I first looked at the TLX… I had that "punched in the gut" feeling, like - "You big dummy!". But I really do love my RDX and I'm actually looking forward to driving it to CVS this evening. LOL. :-P

I'm waiting for final vehicle specs before deciding whether I love it or not. Is it a great looking car? yes. It's also a prototype so the 20" rims and body kit will probably be dropped for the production model (although it would be nice if Acura would offer these as options... A Spec anyone?) Who knows how this thing will look once it lands in showrooms... it may end up looking neutered like the RLX.
It's too bad the DCT didn't make it on the 3.5L V6.
As for the TLX tech features - lane departure assist, collision warning, etc - I'd guess that we may see a couple of them make it on to the RDX but not all. The MDX is Acura's flagship SUV and they may want to maintain differentiation between it and the RDX (other than size)... so the latest tech might be reserved for the top dog.
All that being said, this is the first Acura I've been excited about in a long time! It does look pretty good.

I agree....the Prototype has 265/30/ZR20 tires and wheels. Seriously.....this will not be the set up for the V6 Sh-Awd model. So many think this on the TL site. No way....I even doubt it would be an option...not 30 series tires. 18's and 19's I'm sure.
Also, the production model may be at the Chicago Auto Show in Feb.

^^ *lol* I see your point but let me explain why, and BTW, your question is very valid:
1. I have a good idea of the interior....something similar to the MDX/RLX as Acura is very similar using the corporate look. I am a black interior so I doubt that this color will not be available....now I may have jinxed myself but in Canada, black interior on a white exterior is very popular. Hopefully the they won't screw that up.
2. MPG is not a factor at all for me as I don't drive excessive mileage with my Acuras anyway and a few mpg either way won't make a huge difference. I doubt it will be worst than what the current TL will provide which I already drive and am OK with.
3. hp/torque is not a huge factor for me....I am not a very aggressive driver and again, would expect that the TLX will output something similar to the current TL or better (like the MDX, the hp numbers could be lower but this could weigh less).
4. For me, styling is very important and I really like this TLX at this moment. I have a new car itch and I would trade every spring but I know this would be ridiculous.

Well, I am looking for a reason to get rid of my wife's 05 Ford Escape with under 50,000 miles. Since I've always been a sedan guy, I may give her the RDX and get the TLX... let's see how the productions specs and pricing look.
The exterior is striking and if it has the interior space and trim of a TL with the price point of a TSX, it could be a very interesting option. Sort of like the CLA. Sort of. Don't read too much into that because I know it's clearly not on the same level as the CLA, at least without the V6. But you know what I mean

Wow. I have all kinds of mixed feelings about this car:
1. The overall look is really similar to the new Chevy Impala, particularly in the rear "haunches".
2. The tail lights looks strangely like last-gen Camry, especially from the 3/4 rear shots.
3. The front end/grille design is pretty much unchanged, except for the squinty LED's.
4. NINE-speed transmission? I have to wonder how that'll work ... will it be hunting for gears constantly?
5. No word on engine output ... I kinda hoped Acura would go mild turbo on the 3.5 and bump it up to the 335-350hp range. Surely it's not going to be a replay of the existing engine (?)
6. They keep stressing prototype in the video, but if it's hitting showrooms in a few short months, that almost has to be the finished product.
Overall, while it's not bad-looking, I had hoped Acura would dazzle us with a whole new 21st Century look. As it is, it's kinda the same look, just freshened up and dressed up with LED's.
I'll have to see it in person to make up my mind, but I don't see this as a game-changer for Acura.

While I didn't mind the ZDX from a styling perspective, it needed more power to justify that it was "supposed to be" more sporty than the MDX.
Now if Acura invested that development and marketing money into a coupe convertible off of the TL platform (CL anyone?) back then, I would have been all over it. Hoping for a CLX convertible now. :-)
It looks like a nice car to compete with the Lexus ES, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes vehicles.
As far as the RDX. I think timing may be a factor. If the 2015 RDX comes out before the TLX then we may not see all the features. If the TLX comes out first you may see some of the enhanced tech features. You probably will see the LED lights on the RDX since many Nissan, Ford, and Honda non-luxury vehicles are getting them.
IMO - Any enhancement to the RDX will be small. I don't expect a new engine unless they release a SH-AWD version or Hybrid version but the base engine should stay another year since it is very competitive with the Audi, BMW, and Lexus (no one is choosing those vehicles over Acura because of the base engine). Items like LED headlights, parking sensors, lane departure warnings, and other small items will probably be on scope. Basically any feature offered on the Accord, Fit, Civic, or CRV should be in scope for the RDX but mechanical enhancements being released in the TLX may be a year from in scope.
From a competitive marketplace Acura should look to:
- have an engine with similar or better HP and Torque as the Audi Q5, Lexus RX / NX, BMW X3
- have similar or better gas mileage as the Audi, Lexus, and BMW
- offer similar features as the other luxury brands in the same SUV space while not allowing non-luxury brands (especially Honda) to offer more than Acura
Basically, any specific item that can sway a buyer to buy an Acura or choose a competitor should be addressed. While Acura tries to wait 3 years for a refresh it could really hurt sales if they wait an additional year for some of the smaller comfort / safety features. The LED lights while minor can be a big selling point since they are external and many see the lights as an indicator for a newer fresher car vs. an older model or base model.
Some buyers may actually cross shop the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (260+ HP engine), Ford Escape (230 HP engine) or Jeep Cherokee (270 HP). If those vehicles offer more features and the test drive is similar to the buyer than that buyer may choose that vehicle. I heard the Acura rides better but each individual has different preferences.

After seeing the RLX, MDX, and new TLX I can't help but feel a little disheartened with the RDX. It has clean lines but without having those new headlights it just doesn't have that wow factor when you look at it like I do with the MDX/RLX and soon to be TLX. I can automatically spot a new MDX coming at me by those new headlights because they really pop. I can't wait for them to be on the RDX and REALLY hope for Acuras sake that they put them on the RDX ASAP! Sadly, I feel like they won't do it for 2015.
I am a HUGE acura fan. Nobody beats them in value and reliability. Some say they are too plain but I like the cleaner lines. (I think the new Lexus IS is the ugliest car I have ever seen). I just want those headlights and some more standard features (side mirror camera that comes on the HONDA CIVIC)!!! I'll always be an Acura guy though! No bandwagon fan here!

But seriously, she LOVES the RDX and wanted to get rid of her Escape for it. However, she barely drives her Escape and it's paid off, so I decided to get rid of my 07 RL and get the RDX. If I get the TLX, the RDX will go to her - it's a win-win situation! ;-)
I think on Fatwallet, I saw some dealer offering 2013-2014 TL for $299 a month $0 down at 10K a year
Then yesterday, I got an email from my dealer $1999 down and $279 a month for the TL..
You think this is a good lease deal? for 36 months, 10K miles
