U said u go 10k miles before oil change
how many miles over do u go when the mid says it time for oil change
Everyone has their opinions on when you should get oil changed and what type of oil
to really find out you should take a sample of the oil and send it to Blackstone to get it tested and they’ll tell you if the oil is still good and still protecting your engine

I have never done the Blackstone process but have known about them for years now.. Based on all the reports I've read on Bob is the Oil Guy, it appears that 10K is a non issue as a general consensus.
As far as how far beyond the "Maintenance Minder" this 10k comes about, to be honest I don't know. I usually take note of the code in order to address the other possible things that should be serviced at that particular time.

How sure are you that the Bob is the Oil Guy is not corrupt? I prefer to trust independent labs to test things they don't know more than any bloggers or interested individuals.

I'm convinced that every source of information is at least somewhat corrupt and sometimes innocent ignorance interjected. We really need to discern when we are trying to gain knowledge.

I don't know if you are talking to me, but if so, this is from my most recent post in this thread:

"I have had my RDX for about 2 years now. I change the oil in this vehicle according to the maintenance minder, and while I am currently at 30%, I have only changed it twice in 20,000 or so miles."

I have historically changed my oil at (roughly) 10,000 mile intervals, although I have gone as far as 10,800 miles. This RDX is the only car I have owned with a "maintenance minder", so after finding that it is not simply a mileage counter, I decided to give it a try. I changed the oil shortly after I bought the car and reset the minder. I have changed the oil once since then, and am at 30% currently. I will change it again when I am at 15%.

I walked into a bar the other night and ordered a double.
The bartender brought out a guy who looked just like me.

Yes, and the best way to do this (in this particular case) is to note that the opinions (as well as documented information) on the "Bob is the oil guy" site don't come from 'Bob'; I suppose the name of the forum may be misleading for some (I do *not* mean you, JS2194), but the site is a conglomeration of thousands and thousands of individual's experiences, tests and opinions, accumulated over years and years. That's how we know that it isn't 'corrupt' per se. As you said, it is general consensus.

JS2194, the OP, uses Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil & filter. 10k OCI is not an issue. That combination can easily go 15k miles......as long as the engine is not burning oil (which is not an oil issue). Giving his attention to maintenance, I'm pretty sure JS2194 is on top of this.

You know I've owned cars and motorcycles for over 45 years and I have yet to have an oil related failure in any of them.

Nor have I. I think it would be a very rare occurrence indeed to have an oil related failure in an engine with the proper level of oil in the crankcase and a good filter installed.

However, I have 2 different friends who wound up replacing engines because their adult kids (1 male, 1 female) either didn't know how to check the oil level or simply ignored it...and then ignored it when that red oil symbol illuminated on the dash. . Both were good vehicles, but had >100k miles on the odometer and consumed oil.

I hope the parents didn't give them hand-me-downs or pay for the repairs. If I had kids that did that, they would not have any nuts or...

My opinion is you are overpaying for your oil. There are many other oil options for about a third of the price of Amsoil that will protect your TL well. Especially with your OCI. As long as the oil meets the require API oil ceritfication and viscocity for your vehicle, you're fine.

We get caught up in the "more must be better" game with automotvie fluids thinking they will somehow protect our engines better. The key is you are on a regular OCI using a quality oil. A quality oil is one that meets the required API oil certification for your TL.

And just about anything else.

I always got a chuckle from some members on a motorcycle forum talking about engine oils ad nauseam as if they had a lab to test them, and then they look for the cheapest oil filter they can buy. And even the latter, all you can do is comment on the build quality because I also do not have the lab facilities to test filtration qualities either. We used to have those facilities at work including oil analysis.

Talking about microns? There is more to it than that.
