Help requested - replace transmission or trade it in
2014 RDX (no tech package) with 150k highway miles and otherwise god condition started slipping in third. Have done transmission fluid flush and replaced pressure sensor after P0776 code was pulled but to no avail. Good local transmission shop say it needs to be replaced. Strangely both new transmission and rebuild cost about the same - 7k.
Looking for guidance from the community. Replace transmission, get 3 year warranty and roll dice with potential upcoming woes - or trade in now and bite the bullet for newer wheels. No idea what trade in value I’ll get but won’t be much.
I’m sad btw. I love the car - and wanted to get to 200k. Probably clouding my judgment.

7K? There's probably a lot of labor, but that sounds high.
Transmission failure in the RDX seems rare. Is a junkyard/used not remanufactured transmission an option?

I was quoted 7k at the dealer for new and 7k at the transmission shop for rebuild. Strange! But yes - expensive. I did not consider a salvage - would not know how to go about that and it wasn’t raised as an option.

$7k is absurd. I would've thought that since these transmissions are relatively easy to find and not that expensive compared to others, that job would cost maybe $4k at the most. I would probably trade it in at this point. I'm in a similar situation where I want to trade my RDX in if I find a nice used truck and get a good trade in value back.

$7k is a lot for a transmission rebuild. I would definitely get a couple more quotes.
You have to determine what the value of your RDX is. You can use Edmunds.com or other website to get a ball park figure. Used car values are tricky nowadays since the car market is going through another adjustment (down). Plus you have a slipping transmission and above average mileage. Any dealer/buyer will test drive it before making you an offer. No telling how that will ding the value.
I used Edmunds to value my Camry when I traded it in back in Sept 2020, before the car market went crazy. It was dead on. But who knows now?

I would suggest that you get another vehicle if you can afford. It is too risky to repair transmission with old vehicle, especially the cost is high. I have 06 Toyota sienna with 230k miles which I bought brand new. I would not spend anything above $2000 to fix major components such engine or transmission.

7k is nonsense, a used transmission with 53k miles costs $700 + up to 8 hours of labor. Come to me in Delaware, along with consumables, I will change it for you for $500. https://www.ebay.com/itm/28503566586...temCondition=4
