Hate 2013 Paint - any RDX ????
I really hate the paint quality on my 2013 RDX. It is the basque red pearl.
The car has only 18K miles as wife does not drive it much. The car has whole bunch of little
nicks and scratches. First I blamed people parking next to her for being carless...
Last weekend, I open my highlander door which slowly swang over and "touched" RDX side. I figured,
not bid deal till I looked over and see yet another nick ....whcih went thru the paint into the base. Almost
seems as the paint is super soft.
As reference point, for example, the car she drove before - 2001 Avalon- had a chunk of ice fall off the car ahead on a expressway
going about 60 mph. The ice chunk hit the hood somewhere in the middle to the side and went off ... the hood had a indentation which was
abnout 1/4 inch deep over couple inches. No issues with paint ... no scratches ... just couple cracks in the pain...never fixed it as you would
really had to look to see the damage as the paint never peeled. Wife drover the car for another 5-6 years ... She is already complaining
about the nicks and scratches on RDX ....Is this just RDX red paint issue or any acura/honda paint job ?

Null and proud of it
Hondas and Acuras about pre-2005 had horrible delamination issues...
I feel they've improved their paint latly, but this has always been a weak spot for Honda...
Soft paint, I've heard this term used a lot with Lexus, I think it's a luxury vehicles thing... Basque Red Pearl, personally, I think that's one of, if not the best color offered on the RDX, maybe one of the best ever in terms of apperance... Well, other than Fathom Blue Pearl, which just came out last year...
A lot of Lexus's opposed to Toyotas I see have knickd paint on the bumper covers, same for Acuras to Hondas, in a way...
My 2007 RDX in Carbon Gray Pearl is full of little dings, kinicks, and scratches...
My takeaway is that Luxury brands use softer paint!!!

Odd. My 2013 TSX has near perfect paint. Of course I wash it at least once a year and try not to slam the door of my Bentley into it too often.
There is nothing inherently wrong with Acura paint - at least no different than the paint from any other manufacturer.
If the paint were "soft" then it would be harder to chip - not easier.
Most people don't care for their cars properly. They don't wash them enough, don't wax them and tailgate gravel trucks.

OP I heard a while back that Acura uses "soft" paint. I don't know if that still holds true. It is possible that your specific RDX had a bad paint job at the factory. On the plus side (maybe negative) red basque pearl is extremely rare (have not seen it at all yet) and therefore may be a bonus come sale time.

It's fairly common where I am...
I like that and the light brown color, can't remember the name, the most!!!
I think it has a lot to do with demographics... To me, it seems like white, black, and silver are rather popular in Canada...
I'm not sure where OP is, but it isn't the most common color either...
