Cracking Leather on Steering Wheel?
Cracking Leather on Steering Wheel?
2017, AWD RDX Tech. Bought it used (CPO) toward the end of 2019 with about 25k on it. Currently has about 75k and has largely been pretty trouble-free.
The steering wheel developed some sort of scratch or something along the outside perimeter in a small area, and we sort of chalked that up to potentially being scuffed by clothing or jewelry and it never worsened. I noticed the other day, however, that there are four distinct cracks (facing towards the driver) where the spoke meets the wheel on the left side. Does anyone have any tips on getting this fixed, stopping it from getting worse, etc.?
Is there any sort of third party "cover" that will keep a very similar feel to the wheel AND not look terrible? I can't imagine there's a way to replace just the leather and the whole wheel would need to be replaced... Correct?

How does help me in any way? ZERO useful information on that web site of any kind... No clue what they actually offer or how it works.
I know I can buy a whole brand new wheel for about $250 and then would need to get it swapped out.

I hope you're just as charming in real life
Here's a couple examples of previous owners on other Acuras that have had amazing results with getting a steering wheel re-wrapped through them. If you want to go the OEM route, then sounds like you have your solution. Acura doesn't offer the steering wheel lether as a user-replaceable option so your only option is to replace with an OEM or re-wrapped aftermarket.

The information I posted about the vehicle would pretty clearly tell the tale of being a daily driver (50k miles logged in 3.5 years of ownership). What little info is on the web site you linked to would seemingly indicate I would need to remove the wheel and ship it to them, taking the vehicle completely out of service for who knows who long. So, I question the value of what you posted and respond with a snarky comment.
Thanks.
Thanks.
My guess is yes you can get the steering wheel re-wrap. I would do a Google search on "steering wheel rewrap services near me". I did that for my area and found a number of detail shops that offer that services.
The other option is a DIY option. I would go to an auto shop like AutoZone or Advance Auto to see what steering wheel wraps they have. Also do a search for DIY wraps. There seems to be a number of options out there.

I'm open to putting something on over the top of what's there, but was hoping that someone here might have some experience with one that worked well and provided a similar feel (making it less noticeable overall). If I can find a solution that doesn't involve pulling the steering wheel, great. Otherwise, I suppose it will be left to continue to wear until it's at a point where swapping the wheel out will be the overall simplest solution.
