Hi, I'm new to Acura and to this forum....I'm hoping to get a relay location map of the interior fuse panel. I want to interrupt the coil on the starter cutoff relay as an anti theft mechanism. However, there are several of the same relays in the panel, the GH8LH71.
I don't want to start pulling relays randomly and upset the ECU, can anyone tell me (or provide a pic of) the exact location of the starter cutoff relay? Is it one of the two black relays shown on the attached?
The fuse panel legend makes no mention of relays, I can't find it on the internet, and I'd be happy to buy a complete shop manual but I can't find that either.
Thanks!
Rob Thompson.
I don't know what year RDX you have. They seem to have layouts for two fuse panels: 2013-2015 and 2016-2018.
I noticed the same thing. Nothing mentioned about relays and their locations, so I did some homework and listed what they look like and what they are for on an Excel spreadsheet. I like being prepared...comes from my flying background.
Have a look at this site. It shows relays and what they are for. Check out relay #4 "Starter Cut 2". By the way, I also noticed a "Starter Cut 1" on another sheet. Control Unit (Cabin)
Hi There Mr. Tech,
Thank you for your help!
My RDX is a 2018.
So, I saw the two diagrams you directed me to, I guess I need a full wiring diagram to figure out which one of those two "starter cut" relays to use. They are both the same GH8LH71 I mentioned above, a 20A relay. So, from that I infer that there is a third high amperage conventional "starter relay" to supply current to the starter motor. Wow. Three starter relays.
Eventually I'll get a proper shop manual with a wiring diagram. In the interim, the Bernardi Acura Parts site you directed me to will be useful.
I did visit the dealership to enquire, the service manager advised me that I could void my warranty if I interrupt a starter cut relay. The mechanic pointed out the #4 relay shown in the interior fuse panel, but didn't mention the other one.
It is a burden, but one I am learning to live with.
Well I am down to five motorcycles from seven (four here and one in the Alps). I had to make room for the cars I had always wanted. To think there were only motorcycles in my garage at one point. Daily drivers are parked outside where they belong. LOL
As for the Starter Cut 1 and Starter Cut 2 relays, I have no idea what they are for and I don't assume things. The only way to find out is by going over a schematic to see how they are used.
Attached is a sheet I generated that I'll keep in the glove compartment.
