2016 Lexus RX350 interior almost exactly same as RDX
So I've been hearing people rave about how awesome the Lexus RX350 interior is. They had one on display at a mall I went to so I went inside to check it out. Don't believe the hype. It's almost exactly the same as in the RDX. They have soft touch materials in almost the same places, the seats are comfortable as the RDX. The Lexus also has plastic in the same places as the RDX (the lower half of the door), etc. The Lexus has a bit more soft touch material in the center console. It also has brushed "aluminum" pieces in the interior, looks exactly like the RDX's. I like the RDX's soft touch material on the dash more than the RX350 because it doesn't have all that stitching. I like the fact that it looks like it's all in one piece.

From time to time I check on this entertainment channel. Isn't it fun. .

Not even close. The Lexus blows away the Acura. Better quality leather, wood steering wheel, mouse controller on console, much more quiet. Too bad, but the front end of the Lexus looks like Darth Vader's mask.

The 2016 RX350 they had on display was an F-Sport. The Lexus is more quiet, that's true. But the interior, I honestly don't see much of a difference. The soft touch material and plastic on the dash and the doors, etc. feel exactly the same to me. The borders of the air vents also feel the same. The RDX has extremely comfortable seats, similar if not more comfortable than the Lexus. And keep in mind, the RDX competes more with the NX (and the NX is not as good as the RX350).

He said the two cars accelerated pretty much the same, but he'd give the edge to the ILX because of its DCT transmission. I got to see the 2017 ILX A-Spec he was trading in his S65on and honestly, the Mercedes was no better on the inside than the 2017 ILX A-Spec. I could understand why he was making the switch- the Acura materials, fit and finish were absolutely superb and I think the 2017 ILX A-Spec even had softer leather.
If only he knew that right at the beginning! He could have easily saved $150,000!!!

I completely agree, but the price is the difference. If the price was closer, I would be in a RX350.But it's not and as such for the Money, the RDX is in my budget and a lot of bang for the buck.

It's funny you say that. I had a similar experience just a few days ago. I was at an Acura dealership here, where someone was trading in their 2016 Mercedes AMG S65. I started up a conversation with the owner and he let me check the car out and even take it for a quick spin to see how it accelerates. He told me he was trading the S65 in on a brand new 2017 ILX A-Spec.

At least with the ILX you're paying a lot less upfront and in maintenance costs and you're getting a vehicle that won't break down. Mercedes are built to break down quickly so that you can pay through the nose to repair them. If you enjoy a car that will break down a lot and not last long, go for Mercedes. Admittedly, it does attract women.

I could have gotten the RX350 or the Lexus NX. A few things that won me over to the 2016 RDX Elite: The headlights are a lot better than the Lexus. The ELS sound system is best in class, better than the Mark Levinson. The Acura looks better (no gaping fish mouth grill). The acceleration is faster than both the RX350 and the NX. The 2016 RDX goes 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 6.2 seconds. I almost went for the Porsche Macan, but then realized I didn't want to be ripped off with repair/maintenance costs and paying thousands of dollars extra in rip off packages for things I get standard in the RDX. I just paid $4000 more (Canadian) from the base model and it upgraded me to the fully loaded Elite model
For my next vehicle that I'm getting in addition to the RDX, I'm seriously considering another Acura. The more I look at other luxury brands, the more I realize Acura offers the best package overall. I might get a Lexus if it goes on sale like $6000 to 10,000 (Canadian) off.

Iuno man... What kind of ass does the RX350 pull though? Probably not the 9.5's you're used to though so probably not worth the downgrade

Low key died reading this thread.
But there is no doubt Lexus has better quality overall than Acura... Acura's leather seats are definitely not up to par with Lexus (or my S60). Sure it might have soft touch in the right places, but still, not as high quality as many other brands... Acura isn't bad per se, other brands are just better (but of course, for a higher price)

Yeah, Lexus is a chick magnet, no doubt. That's why I haven't ruled out getting one. It's just that Acura offers wayyyy better value, and in many cases better overall technology. For example, the Acura RDX has better technology than its main competitor, the Lexus NX. The Acura TLX has better technology than the Lexus ES350, etc. All of this at $10,000+ lower price. That's why it's hard to buy a luxury vehicle other than an Acura. I already have an Acura though, so thinking of diversifying by getting another brand. If I don't find a good deal, I might just go for another Acura but wait for the newer models with the new pentagon grill.

It's a personal preference just like premium leather covered steering or carbon fiber trim. Many people consider it premium over the plain plastic or leather. You don't have to endure it if you don't like it. I like the glossy finish of wood as much as the leather. I also understand that the wood finish in Acura used to be plastic as well but that is changing in the newer models.

The new pentagon grill looks awesome and I will explain why. When you stare into it, it's like looking into "eternity". It also makes it look like it's about to go at warp speed. And the "A" Acura symbol is bigger on the new grill. It looks really great on the new MDX and will probably look even better on the RDX and other Acura vehicles.

The 2016/2017 RDX got top safety ratings across the board on the IIHS safety tests and got the top award. The only thing it lost a mark on (got 5/6) was frontal crash prevention because it slows down the vehicle but doesn't stop it completely by itself to prevent a collision. Everything else it got top marks. The Subaru Outback is a decent vehicle (but not a luxury vehicle); the RDX is in another class that competes with luxury crossovers.
