2014 RDX with Technology pkg, 1st time buyer

I received this offer today in South Florida. Any feedback is welcome, both good and bad.

My own comment is that there is a large inventory of 2014's on the 3 largest dealer lots and not a lot of people are willing to to pay cash for car.

My purchase below is COD, that means, I will pay cash for the car and have a clear title immediately.

I think the price is about 1000 too high.

2014 Acura RDX Technology Package

Manufacturer's MSRP: $39,115.00
Internet Discount: $2,965.00
Internet Selling Price: $36,150.00
FL Tire & Battery Fee: $6.50
Dealer Fee: $799.00
Total Purchase Price: $36,955.50
Electronic Registration Filing Fee: $199.00
Registration & Title: less than 200
Florida Lemon Law: $2.00
FL State Sales Tax 6%: $2,229.27
Supplemental County Tax: $0.00
TOTAL: $39,385.77

Yes, I have tried truecar but as is already known, it does not show true OTD and it also does not show what fees dealers may decide to throw in.

I agree the 799 and 199 total 1000 fees are high, what kind of fees could be considered normal ?

I've never seen dealer fees higher than $250. Mine were like $175 on my purchase. I'd tell them to knock those fees down to about $200.

All dealers charge different fees, so make sure you have the lowest vehicle price first before drilling down the rest. Most dealers will match or beat the lowest price you receive, so hit up the one with the lowest fees last.

The most important thing is to know how to calculate the OTD price the right way. What fee(s) are required and fixed (like reg, tax) and what fee(s) are variable (like Doc fee). The formula in MA is Sale price - trade (if any) + accessories/add-ons (if any) + 6.25 MA sales tax + Doc Fee + Reg/Title/Sticker. In Ma, doc fee and RMV fees are NOT taxable.

Around here, the Acura Doc fees range from $299 to $499. At one point, a local Toyota dealer was charging $1,200 for doc fee, which is ridiculous and deceiving. They were under cutting all competitors in vehicle sale price and make it back from the doc fee.

Good luck!!

I paid $200 in doc fees. For $700 I would just drive to the next town and buy a car there.

Agree with everyone else, doc fees are way too steep. Mine was $225.

Also, paying cash for a car is no incentive for a dealer these days. They make more money on a car that is leased or financed so cash is no incentive.

Also try to find out if your state regulates the maximum dealer/doc fee they can charge. Here in MD, the max is $200 so pretty much all dealers add that amount.

Acura.com shows the correct price for a 2014 RDX with tech before destination is:

$39,620

Factory Invoice is:

$37,150

If you are getting a quote below the factory invoice price then the dealership is technically selling at a lost, but in reality you are just eating into the "hold back" from the manufacture for that car.

AFAIK, none of the previous cars, of varying makes but all purchased new, turned down a cash payment at time of delivery. There is apparently something to be said in also selling cars by volume as manufacturers also send a quarterly or semi-annual payment to the dealer based on units sold. Perhaps a check with 6 figures, if they do really well.

Have worked the deal down another $400 as of today for the final OTD 38,985.77

I got quoted two prices from the same dealership from different sales guys for RDX Tech.

37300 and 36800

So even at 36900 that sounds like a decent deal

Based on my purchase last week, you should be able to do $1200- $1500 better on a 2013. Same car.

I would tell the dealer that 38,500 OTD is the most I can pay for the car, not a dollar more. Let them call you if they can sell it for that price. 100% sure they will.
Another tip is to use edmunds to get quotes from different dealers.

I paid 38K OTD for 2013 Tech/AWD. The price included my 12+ year old trade in with ~140K miles on it. Seems as you are in the ball park ...
