2013 RDX AWD TECH - WDP - On the way!
Hi everyone,
Simply to let you know that I have told my dealership to put my name on an upcoming 2013 RDX AWD TECH in WDP. I am looking forward to adding this new vehicle to my garage next to my 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech. There is no doubt that I will miss the ride feel of my 2010 RAV4 Sport as that little thing was very nimble and had an incredible road feel which is not the RDX's greatest strength but I was craving the luxury feel of my TL every time I was behind the wheel of the RAV4.
Once I take possession of the RDX, I will make sure to post the pictures. So far, the ETA for the RDX is the end of the month or so. BTW, for those who ask, I did not pay full retail for it and got an excellent finance rate of 0.25% because of the loyalty program. Rather than using my cash for it, I decided to use Honda/Acura's money given such a low rate of borrowing.
Stay tuned

The rate for a 36 month purchase finance is 1.25% but because of loyal discount (already have my TL), they are able to discount 2.25% but NOT allowed to drop to zero so the lowest they can go is 0.25% over 36 months.
This is through Acura Canada. Again, 0% would have been great but I understand they can't use the loyal discount to bring to zero percent.

WOW! Weather, you lucky dog!!! :-)
Trust me, after a few minutes in your own new RDX, you will not miss your RAV4 at all... LOL
WDP looks great on this car. Be sure to post pics when it arrives! You will have a very nice looking garage then :-)

I agree with you, the white sure looks good on this RDX and mainly because of the black contrast throughout the vehicle (rear, bottom etc). You know me know, I am a white vehicle junkie!
I can't wait to take possession and share with all my Acurazine friends the feedback from this 2013 RDX. Pics will be uploaded as soon as I get the vehicle, rest assured
Now if only I could install a stripper pole in the garage...hummmm?!? (lol)
This is great! I was contemplating a 2014 RDX purchase. I can't wait to take a test drive at my dealer to feel the smoothness of the new suspension and the quiet roar of the V6. I'll take comfort ride over jarring ride 08-12 any day!
I see you are also from the Cold White North
I am on the opposite side of the country but just as eager to lay my hand on that leather steering wheel. The countdown has begun

Congrats weather. I test drove the car a couple of weeks ago and liked what I saw/felt despite a couple of negatives. But 80% of me wants to wait to see what the 5G TL looks like, but I don't know how much longer my 3G TL will hang on. Right now I've got the RDX, Cadillac ATS, 2013 Lexus ES, and the 5G TL on my list of cars. If push came to shove, I could even opt for the 4G TL now that they've toned down the grille. I know, I'm all over the place.
I like that the new RDX gets about the same mileage as my current 3G, but gives a lot more utility, but I know I'd miss kind of gunning it and running up and down mountain/hill curves for kicks, but maybe I can overlook that. Decisions, decisions, .... anyway, if I do get the new RDX, I'll probably wait until they start dealing a bit more and until I hit 200,000 on my TL (which should be in about 2 months or so)

UPDATE: I have just been told the RDX has now been built and has crss the Canadian border. It has an ETA of May 1-7th so it should be here soon. Once I get it, I will post some pics.
I did have a chance to finally see one in the flesh (besides auto show) and test drove it. I really enjoyed the way it drove and despite the concerns that some have with respect to the SH-AWD, it is not an issue for me as I don't intend to drive an SUV the way I drive my TL. I did notice the same drawback some have said about the very low position of the passenger seat but for me, its a non issue. I do find teh rear seating to be quite nice. I do find the interior cargo space is smaller than my RAV4 and especially when you bring the seat down. They don't flatten out like the RAV4 does.
Otherwise, the comfort, the handling, the interior, I just loved it and do not regret my decision at all.
I am pretty excited to pick it shortly....

1. I have owned 2 Acura vehicles with the "dreaded" electric power steering which has never been an issue for me to be honest. A 2009 TSX and a 2012 TL so I am used to the electric steering feel from Acura.
2. The previous RDX owners (1st gen) are coming from a hydraulic steering so for them, I can understand how they see a huge difference.
3. You are coming from a 3rd gen TL so again, you will see a difference in how the steering will feel.
So with those comments in mind, let me say that YES you will notice a difference in the steering feel compared to your current vehicle. Will you get used to it? Absolutely! I know that when I got my 2009 TSX, I missed the way my 2006 TSX actually drove but within a few weeks, I was already getting used to the way my TSX drove. As you know, electric steering is becoming the norm within the industry in an effort to provide fuel efficiency so we can't get around it. I know that Audi has an amazing feel despite being electric so each car company has tweaked their steering feel and Acura has their own. For me, I got into the RDX and didn't even notice anything odd about the way the steering felt.
The fact that I never decided to pull back on my decision to acquire the RDX should say something about the way it drove. I decided to try the Q5 prior to the RDX and as much as there was some aspect I liked about the Q5 (steering), overall, I preferred the RDX. I am not trying to say that everyone will feel the RDX is better than the Q5....this is based on what I feel and based on what matters to ME.
Trying to describe how something feels is a bit hard to do and I highly encourage you to test drive one when you get a chance. Just know that I was able to get used to the feel of the electric feel and for me, stepping into the RDX felt totally natural. It will be significantly different than your TL but trust me, you will get to like it once you give it a chance. Know that your safety will never be compromised and how it feels is different than what it can actually do. Trust me, when you get to tug on the steering to do a quick maneuver, it will do what it needs to do and that is where you will get to appreciate and develop trust in the steering.
Be fair though, an SUV will never be able to give you the exact same feel as a sports sedan. I am fortunate to be able to have an Acura/Acura garage so my SH-AWD TL for the fun sporty sedan and an RDX for a fun, practical yet still luxurious ride. Looking at the 2nd gen interior makes me really happy I waited and didn't get a 2012.
Just a few more days before I get have it in my garage with lots of pictures to come.

UPDATE...I just got the call that the RDX is within 24-36h from arriving at the dealer. The arrival date will determine when I'll pick it up as I am several hours away but its great to see the RDX is almost here/ Pics to come once I have it and had it detailed.
weather,
I missed your response about the steering, so thanks for responding. I actually did test drive the RDX maybe a couple of days after they were available to be driven. I have driven 4G TL's as loaners a few times and didn't dislike the steering like I did on the RDX, but you may be right - I'd probably get used to it. I liked pretty much everything else about it, though. Can't wait for the pics!

Rockets...No problem.. I am glad you had the chance to test drive it yourself. I know the RDX will never driver like the TL and I can forgive a softer steering given that I have my TL for the more spirited driving. I cannot emphasize enough on the fact you would get used to the feel of a steering....
I'll make sure to take some pics for you guys

Regarding the steering feel... I'm in my second week of my RDX, and my mind has acclimated to it. Coming from a 2000 Honda Accord (2dr), which had unusually good feel for a mid-tier car, I was pretty disappointed with the feel of the RDX when I first got it. But as long as you're not consistently switching from a car with good feel to the RDX, you'll be fine. If you're constantly comparing, you'll be disappointed. The RDX just wasn't designed to provide that kind of driving performance.
What I've gravitated to now is maximizing the performance of the vehicle as it exists. Finding out how to take corners with minimal body roll, how to work the gas pedal to get efficient acceleration off the line, how to get the best mileage, and overall just enjoying the smooth ride. There's a lot of things to enjoy about the car. If you're dead-set on GREAT feel, the small SUV market shouldn't be in the discussion.
Also, here's a trick I've been experimenting with lately... I normally drive with the wheel fully extended, which I believe emphasizes that loose feel. If you adjust the wheel back towards the dash, it becomes harder to apply the lateral pressure required to turn the vehicle, and you more or less trick your mind into an increased feel because of that greater difficulty to turn. Anyone try this?

weather, congrats on your purchase! Hope you like the '13. Unforunately my wife saw pictures of the '13 before we leased her 12' and said she hated it, so we got the 12'. Of course, as I suspected and tried to tell her before hand, she saw the 13' in person and now loves it. So 10 more months and we will make the switch!!
Thanks for the compliments....it is auto and not manual. Sorry for the disappointment. If you want to see more pics of it, follow the thread attached below:

That is the MOST common thing about Acura...they look atrocious in Pics but always so much better in person. I am not sure why! Even my TL, the pics never does the car any justice. The fact I was able to see the RDX in person at the Montreal Auto show in January was what I needed to feel confident to proceed with the purchase sight unseen. Its too bad that it didn't work out for you but the 2012 is still a good lil rig and you will have no problem finding a buyer for it

Trust me, even the pics don't do the car justice. I took my car into a car dealership (non Acura as I live too far) for a tire rotation..seeing my car being driven made me realize how gorgeous this TL truely is. The funny thing is I then walked outside to watch the mechanic work and all the other mechanics were checking my car (It was at a VW dealership). I receive alot of compliments not just on the looks but how PRISTINE the car was kept. When they lifted it on the hoist, the guys just couldn't believe it!
HI everyone,
Well...I am now back after picking up the RDX! All I can say is that this vehicle FAR EXCEEDS my expectations. I have immensely enjoyed the trip back from the dealership and so far, this RDX is simply amazing. I do not have any pics yet as I came late last night, went early to work this morning and pouring rain here today. I am planning on giving the RDX a good detailing job this weekend and upload pictures....eventhough its not like you guys haven't see the WDP RDX before

hawkeye...Trust me, I know! I am flabbergasted by the amount of technical things you can do with this RDX. Luckily for me, my TL has allowed to become quite familiar already but I would not want to be an old person trying to figure this out! Well....I am already old but I meant OLD old
BTW..You have no idea how well my dealer treats its customer! I wish all Acura dealerships were as amazing as these guys!! They are just TOP NOTCH.

DibbyD....Not half as much as seeing it dirty in the garage and not able to wash it because of the shitty weather....and if you think I can control the weather....guess again - I only predict it.
Rocketsfan, now please feel free to rub it in!!! LOL! Mind you, even though the temperature will be about 20 degrees Celsius today, we did have a big snow dump last weekend!!! Can you believe it!? Oops, that probably messed up my clock then.... LOL
