Transmission failed ?

Hi, I'm a frequent lurker here. I'm pretty sure I have another transmission failure to report. This morning and at lunch my car started to shift really hard between first and second. Coming home this evening the transmission started to slip and either downshift erratically or start to seize. It felt like the front wheels were about to lock up a couple of times. By the time I was home my VSA and check engine lights were on. I'm waiting on the tow truck as I write this. My car is a 2001 type S with 39k miles. I tried the sport shift mode once or twice right after I bought it and have used D5 ever since. I've never raced it or abused it in an any way. Because I knew of the potential problems I've always made sure to come to a complete stop before shifting between reverse and drive and/or park.

Yep, your tranny is cooked.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, the dealer knows what to look for to determine if there's an issue.

But if it's shifting erratically and your dash is lit up like a Christmas tree ('tis the season), it's a slam dunk.

Yeah like Scrib said all the signs are there for a failed tranny.

Welcome to the failed tranny club

Kind of ironic that it might have lasted longer if you had left the transmission in D3, and or used SS (kept it in 2nd around town to reduce shifting). Counterintuitive – yes? (2-3 and 3-2 shifts make for spot heating that roasts the 2nd and 3rd gear clutch packs.)

I'm sending this off to the tranny forum.

Get down to the dealer ASAP and make them put in a new one.

You really don't want the "dreaded 5- to 2-downshift” to happen to you on the freeway with a large truck tailgating you.

Hey Hey now...my trans is officially shot. W/ 49995 on th odometer...hehehe...5 miles left in the base warranty. The cool thing is I get paid to install my own transmission. I never thought mine would go but I guess I was wrong. On the way to work today I couldn't even get out of 2nd gear and then even 1st. Took me like 45 minutes to go 8 miles. Ohh Well...

My tranny was replaced @ 23000 miles with a rebuild tranny is that going to be considered new or just remanufactured. The tranny was slipping, meaning it will not switch into 2nd or third without me easing up on the gas pedal a little, but it took at least a month before the check engine light came on, I just thought it needed some tranny fluid so when i took it for an oil change i had the guy check the tranny fluid level and he said that there were metal shavings that he seen, and then i thought wait it's made by honda the tranny souldn't be slippin already. boy was i wrong.
