Tranny FLUSH?
Tranny FLUSH?
OK, so I went to the local place to get my oil changed and I know a guy there he changed my oil the last 3 or 4 times and helped me w/ my K&N airfilter. He changed my oil and everything, then started checking everything else, windshield washer fluid, radiator fluid and all that stuff. Then he came across my transmission fluid and check it. He showed me that it was a clear brown color and siad that i needed my transmission flush, because it is suppose to be a redish color...He did tell me its usually @ 30K miles, but in my car i have only put a lil less than 22K, I'm scared about this. So should i get the tranny flush done w/ the Acura deal or @ this local place? I'm not sure yet, and i dont want my tranny to fail like it happened to the other ppl so i'm scared and not sure what to do, some1 give me some feedback!!
They are all doomed to die. I babied mine for 74,000 miles. Had it serviced "by the book" and it still failed on me. As one service guy told me, eventually it will fail, that is why I traded mine in at the time of the transmission replacement......... I didn't want to deal with it after 100,000 miles........I would NOT let anyone but ACURA mess with that fluid........

No one but Acura should flush the tranny if your not DIY. You could void your tranny warranty if you do not use Honda approved ATF.
Edit, hell just do the drain and fill. All of us autos are doomed. Don't waste the money on the flush and fill, unless you want to spend the dough. but also just think, you drop the cash on the flush and fill, then 5k miles later tranny
out on you.

A flush would be like taking a "power hose" to an engine bay that has NEVER been washed ! You just blow everything off, so Flushing is decided by Acura, NOT Joe's auto shop down the country road......Flush vs. oil change are two different things......Go to your nearest dealership and obtain a peace of mind.......Oh and Don't worry your covered up to 100,000 miles..........LMAO........:>(

as far as i know, flushes on most hondas and acuras are not needed nor done. drain and fill is the way to go. i've talked to the honda service dept. and acura's. the only honda tranny that is flushed is the old suv, the passport or something, because it has a gm tranny.
draining and filling the tranny fluid on the cl is piece of cake.

Or just wait for your tranny to crap out, chances are it will.
VeeralS05,
Just do yourself a favour, somewhere about 25,000miles, bring it in the your local Acura Dealer and get a 30K inspection, it would be flushed then and replaced along with all the other 30K inspections.
Your car will be soon due one, so just wait until then, no point in getting it done on now.

Doing a "flush" with Honda ATF is NOT going to cause a problem -- PERIOD!
"Change" is a partial exchange of fluid.
"Flush" using conventional Acura method just does a number of "changes" until "most" of the old ATF is gone.
If you use a machine, you need to make sure that they DO NOT USE any SOLVENTS.
As long as they hook up to the ATF lines and blow Honda ATF through it, it's fine.
DON'T DRIVE AROUND WITH BROWN FLUID.
SCHEDULE an appt. with Acura for the "fix" and let 'em get some fresh fluid in there.
BROWN IS NOT GOOD!!!!!!!!

true, how much do the tranny flush's range? $$$?
The way I understood it, was a flush was determind by Acura, due to their inspection of the transmission. Otherwise YOU should determine when you should have your tranny oil changed BASED ON YOUR DRIVING HABITS AND CONDITIONS ! Don't listen to GM tranny gear heads, because those transmissions are based on totally different technologies and generations. I hate it when my family member starts all this transmission crap GM this, GM that. I'm NOT defending Honda's transmssions, as I agree they are "weak" compared to GM transmissions....
Hope this helps !

a ATF change (drain and refill) costs around 50 at acura dealer. So I would think flush should cost around 100. A flush = drain and refill 3-4 times. It's actually a DIY job, like oil change. The only problem is you need a longer socket wrench to reach the filler bolt.
A question on the change interval. I have a 03 CL at 31K now. I haven't done a ATF change yet. On the manual, several condition schedule says first change at 60K or 3 yrs, then every 30K or 2 yrs (mormal schedule is 120K first change then every 90K). But my dealer said 30K change interval. Should I follow the manual?
