Hello, Long time quiet member, my tranny blew yesterday.

Hi,

I have a '01 CL-S, my transmission was replaced at 52,862 miles under warrenty in 06/05. Yesterday I was traveling on the NYS Thruway, and i realized I had no acceleration power, and I looked down and i was crusing at 5k RPMS, and in my rearview, a heavy black smoke. I pulled over, car would jump up in RPMs and lose power. In the daylight, i see a layer of oil over my entire car, and puddle of it in the wheels, and cars driping transmission fliuid, and the interior smells. Needless to say I believe the tranmission is shot. The car currently has about 90,500 miles on it. I had the car towed to Heart Acura in upstate new york, and had a friend drive me back down south. My warrenty card says my powertrain warrenty is 100,000 but in column next to it it says expiration date 09-12-2007, I assume it is whichever comes first. I take very good care of the car, just spent like 700 to have the water pump and all belts and such changed the other month. I still have 2 years left of law school, and not in position to be paying for a new transmission. Any ideas on if the date is going to screw me? Anyone have any past experience. Tranny only had 40,000miles on it since it was replaced previously! Its sunday so I have not talked to the dealership, would like to be educated before I contact them tomorrow.

Thank you for responses in advance!

-Mike

In doing some searching on here, I see some posts in regard to a 109,000 mile warrenty, and other posts on a 114,000 warrenty, and it being longer then 7yrs, but like 7.6years or some strange # i saw some posts saying. The original Acura Certified pre-owned card I recieved says "power train 09-12-2007 or 100,000". Not sure what that translates to if it is later, or what. Any info would be appreciated that would be helpful. Again car only has about 91k on it right now.

What Fix? At 45,142 miles in 09/04 I had the "Oil Jet Kit" Installed, and then at 52,862 in 06/05, I had the transmission replaced.

Update

Acura is paying for the new transmission under a "One time goodwill".

Kind of surprised on lack of responses and advise received on here.

When the car was put up on the flatbed for tow, there was a film of oil over most of the car, and it was dripping on the flatbed, as well as oil sitting inside the rims.

Is there anything else in particular I should have the dealer check out or do. Is a regular car wash enough to get the transmission fluid off of everything, do any parts need to be steamed? Is it going to affect the brake pads at all? etc..

Thanks in advance,

-Mike

I am not too surprised at the limited responses on this as the topic has been around for a while and I did not get much to my recent post on the topic. I am still awaiting a response from the dealer on if they will repair my tranny (first time) on my '01 CL with 64K.
Have you had your car maintained regularly by the dealer?
Based upon what the dealer told me, if I had them do all of the regular maintainance they would have replaced it without question even though I am 6 months past the warranty date. I have been taking it to an excellent independent local mechanic near my office since the warranty ended.
Are they charging you anything? Any type of warranty on it?

Can you advise if this is your first tranny malfunction and replacement and how many miles on the car (or driven since it was replaced before and date it was last replaced)? Thanks much

Mikey...asa getting the car clean... see if the dealership will clean the car for you while its there... I am sure they deal with all kinds of spills all the time...

....once you get the tranny fixed up.... the MOST important thing to do is make sure that the fluid is changed and flushed according to the maintenance schedule...If it is... they will pretty much will forgive you if it goes out again... if its NOT... you will get a $3k to $4k bill for the next one... either way, they dont care about the mileage, just that the fluid is changed... and if you change the fluid yourself, save the receipts and document the mileage... hope this helps... sorry you're having this problem... I just dropped over $3k into my tranny repair about 5,000 mile ago... ...Rick /Sith

the official warranty is 7 years 9 months or 109K miles

since there is also a odometer settlement the warranty milage may be extended by 5% of the original 100K or and extra 5K or so

Yes, my transmission was replaced under a "good will" The car only had 91k on it, even though it was over the 7 years. In addition the transmission had been replaced previously at the same dealership at around 50k, so it only had 40k on it, I assume fact this dealer was the one to previously service and replace transmission, made it a less stressful process to get it covered.
New transmission is running great, i notice the car when driving on the highway at cruising speeds, the rpms hover a bit higher then they used to, i could be wrong, but I definately notice a difference in the feeling of the car, have not decided if its better or worse, will say it shifts smoother.
Trying to figure out if my gas milege will be affected at all, even though seems RPMs hover higher, i think i am getting better milege, not certain though or if its even related.
