This is too funny...

It has been stated it was a Sunoco station and 110 octane was added; this is their Standard Lead Race Fuel. The highest Unleaded they carry is 104, GT Plus Unleaded.

http://www.racegas.com/fuelspecs/default.asp

The funniest part is that it would have done nothing but make the car slower!!! :o

Now on to the reasoning of getting it fixed for free; that is pure BS. If it were the transaxle, that is arguable but still suspect. But if the catalytic converter is (and I am sure it has been) damaged then Darrin should be held responsible. But it appears that this is not going to be the case and something which highlights character ethics of people on this forum.

With only "2 and a half gallons" of the leaded gasoline, I'm sure it couldn't have done that much damage, especially since it was mixed with whatever he had left in his tank.

I think the problem he had was just a coincidence that it happened at the same time as he used LEADED gasoline.

You have to question the reasoning for using 110 octane gas though, AND why only 2.5 gallons, AND why mixing it with regular premium?

Darrin, do your parents know what you are doing to their car? Keep on using leaded gasoline and taking it to the dealer buddy.

1 more thing

i got an oil change last week and i guess the dealer is suposed to check all the fluids, but when i checked my tranny fluid it was brownish and smelled burnt, so i had them flush it at no charge, the tranny does seem to shift smoother in d4 or d5

We get the impression that you want to mess up your car because you used leaded gasoline.

yeah contrary to logic, from the report that Acura filed with the NHSTA it seems that gateshifting is better.
Note: There is nothing wrong with gate shifting (GS). . . as long as you are not purposely trying to beat the $hit out of your car. Like some people do with rentals.

Most folks gate shift because the like the feel of having more control of when to downshift. If I know I'm going to punch it . . . racing someone or otherwise . . I can downshift in anticipation of the punch . . . instead of waiting for the computer kickdown logic to respond to the punch.

Those are precious 10ths in many cases and why some folks always found it hard to believe that I beat this or that car that was technically faster. So yes, you just can't leave it in drive at the track and expect to win . . . just ask the guy in the SC430 staring at my tail lights pulling away from him.

It also allows me to control what RPM I want to shift at. Under perfect conditions, car running great, I keep it down to redline on all gears . . . other times conditions are not so favorable and I want to shift sooner.

It is also an advantage in road racing where you have to shift up and down frequently . . . but why not use SS mode? With SS mode you have to 'click' through the gears and with GS you can drop straight to the gear of choice . . assuming you are not out of the RPM limits of that gear, in which case it would drop to lowest permissible gear.

Think of it like a manual but without the clutch. It just takes some getting used to . . know and controlling the shift points.

In the end you are not making the tranny do anything the auto or SS mode do, just that GS gives you more precise control over the timing of each shift. And yes, there is an advantage in doing that.
