If you did buy leaded gasoline (where did you buy the 110?) it would have clogged up the catalytic converter(s). And that back pressue in the exhaust would cause your higher engine temperatures. Depending on how extreme the temperatures your seeing are.

You will also have some lead deposits in the engine, put in some regular premium gas and some hard driving should clean that out for sure. If you empty your tank, this will help a ton. Lead deposits are also bad in your valve seats.

(if you did put leaded gas in, otherwise this doesn't apply)

Lead in the gas increases the octane rating amongst other things.

i'll put in some reg 93 octane w/ some guel cleaner tommorw.

Find out if it was leaded.

If so, drain your tank and fill it up with regular premium.

If you did use leaded gas, your catalytic converters will probably have to be replaced. Unless someone knows some good cleaning technique. I'm not familiar with any...

Sorry for the somewhat bad news if you did use leaded gas. you could always use one of those bypass pipes I have seen sold until you get some $$ together for a new catalytic converter. (if this is the case with the leaded gas)

Also, I would think it would take more than one tank of 110 leaded fuel to clog them up. But I also don't have any numbers to back my theory on it...

I doubt you used leaded fuel anyway...


EDIT:

also, when I said drain you tank. I mean literally unbolt the tank and drain the focker out manually...

It would take two tanks to destroy the catalytic converter according to him. Which is kinda what I was thinking. But he doesn't state which type of catalytic converters... Nor if it would be clogged or just not reducing pollution after two tanks.

I bet your transmission is toast for sure. But go find out if it was leaded before you worry about it.

don't worry darrin... no way they can nail this on you... gas has nothing to do with tranny failure at least in my opinion. if anything you'd char up your pistons and maybe at worst misalign some valves... no way it'd mess up your tranny... you can give credit to your trnany to Honda.

Oh no is this going to turn in the subarau link that was here a while a go. If some of you don't know wat I talking about was that: 1 user on forum says i played around with my turbo and fuked up on of the cylinders. Another member goes wtf that is stupid. The forum poster told him to fuk himself etc. started a whole fight. The forum poster apparently said that he was going to screw the dealer and lie that he didn't do anything. He got the dealer to pay for it etc etc. Ended up that one of the forum members reported him to the dealer and gave the link of the messages of what the poster did. This cancelled his coverage and he hates all the subarau people. LOL it was hilarious because it started a whole war over there.

go to the acura dealer.... tell the symptoms, and try to be as ignorant as you can (just say something like "the car is just acting up").

And quit playing with your car cause its gonna cost you a s**tload of money to repair. I guess you already learned after this freaked weekend.

My '01 did that to my wife. All the lights came on in the dash, and the engine wouldn't shift out of 1st. She shut it off, and I tried it, and couldn't re-produce the problem.

Dealer OBD'd it, and it came up with tranny solenoid failure (why it cured itself, I don't know). They replaced them, and it never came back.

i had the car scanned w/ the computer at the dealer today and they ran some other tests ran on the car as well and every thing is perfectly fine, i even got my tranny fluid flushed to be safe

wtf u talkin about values and ethics for? you have never met me and your gonna judge me on what i post on a car forum

Taking your car to the dealer and expecting them to fix it for free when you are the one who made a obvious mistake is the reason why dealer service prices keep rising. We, the honest customers, are paying for your ignorance at each scheduled service.

We all read your posts on this board, (how can we not, you reply to every thread on here at least twice) and it is obvious that you drive your CL-S hard. We all know there are known problems with our automatic transmissions, but abusing your transmission and then blaming it on Acura isn't very responsible. That and your overall attitude is why people are calling you out for your "values and ethics."

I see what you’re saying ZAP, but I still say all these frivolous claims add BIG TIME onto Acura’s warranty costs.
All that money has to come from somewhere and it’s usually in the form of higher costs to FUTURE customers.
Defective parts are one thing, but purposely damaging your car with questionable mods and/or driving style and then expecting the dealer to pick up the bill is wrong.
And I’m not just busting on darrinb, I’m basing this opinion on many posts that I’ve read here over the years.

Gate shifting is not the problem or is a problem. I've gate shift most of my auto and have never had a problem. 4 of these cars had over 80K miles and 1 was raced regularly.

I've even posted a poll and found a higher ratio of failures with folks leaving it in D5 or D4, sudden hard downshifts that occur from this mode is worse than controlled gate shifts . . . the tech guy at my shop felt the same way.

BTW - my TLS is 2 1/2 years old and is still working fine and I gate shift most of the time.

Now the issue is are you just abusing it in some other way, like constantly dropping shifting down at the max downshift point or running a lot of 2-3gear WOT and back down. As we've read in the tranny post, the overheating from repeated 2-3 WOT is a ig issue.

I agree the cost has to be covered somewhere but I don't think DarrinB was intentionally trying to fry his cats? I don't think his mistake is any worse than what Honda/Acura has done with the AT trannies. Forcing people to drive around with ticking time bombs. Not saying anything is right, and 2 wrongs don't make a right or whatever but you get what i'm sayin.

In my general observation, I wouldn't doubt that this kid gate shifts and bangs out his upshifts in the red-line frequently... you can't tell me that isn't bad for the car.

No, that is sportshifting (SS).... gate shifting is actually manually shifting the gears up the gate... so starting all the way down in first, over to second, then up to 3rd, then D4 then D5... that's gate shifting.
