Cls Broke Today With 13,000 Miles...
What the f-ck! Is this an american car? Ok, sorry I have not posted here in a while, I have been spending a lot of time and money on my vette anyway... I took the CLS out today (I haven't drove the car since last week due to the beautiful weather we got down here in south florida this week). I let the car warm up a bit and then start giving her a little gas if u know what i mean . Well it feels like I am driving a manual transmissioned car with a blown clutch! The motor just kept reving and I was going nowhere (yes it was in D5). Then I tried to Sport shift... It worked a little better until I had to shift from 2nd-3rd- the bitch wouldn't catch and again the car just started reving PAST REDLINE! Is this now a common problem for this car? BTW I had the car flatbed to the dealer and will hear what they have to say tomorrow. PLease let me know if this happened to you. Thx.

What's death by flare?
And yes it's F'ing ridiculous. If mine goes I will be asking the dealer what they can offer me as a trade-in deal for a 6speed '03. I love this car, everything about it, except the shitty transmission.

Death by flare is Death by slipping (Flare and slipping are equivalent [at least in the context of the tranny problems) (the factory manual uses the term "flare")

The dealership called me today and confirmed the blown tranny. They told me they don't even open up the tranny, Acura tells them just to install a new one- which they said should be in the car Monday or Tuesday. He also asked if I needed a rental while my car was out of service. No complaints with the dealership (he said he only saw this happen twice before) Acura should put a better tranny in the car. Strangely enough, I used to have a 98 Accord with the V6 and the only thing I didn't like about the car was the tranny. When the CLS came out with the 5 Speed auto I thought they addressed the problem- believe it or not the 5 speed auto sold me on the car! Oh well- if it breaks 2 more times in 6 months can I force Acura to buy the car back? (BTW it is leased.)

WildWolf, the same exact thing happened to my TL-S a few days ago - same revving past redline and little forward progress.
Took it to Rick Case Acura. They ordered new tranny and are still waiting for it to arrive.
Speaking of Accords, my friend told me his Accord tranny broke at 49,000 miles, out of warranty. It was acting up past 15,000 miles but not enough to warrant any repairs. He said it was pretty scary to be sitting at the red light on an incline, then when the light turns green and he presses the gas pedal the car actually rolls back.

Got the car back last week ( I was away until today). Drove it twice so far so good. Feels just like stock. I haven't floored it yet- does anyone know if I have to "break in" the tranny? Otherwise I will wait a few hundred miles before I give it full throttle.

bunk ...
The warm up thing for the tranny is a load of bunk .. because the tranny doesn't warm up without being driven and the problem seems to be isolated to the CL/TL tranny .. if auto trans need to be warmed up . .there would be a whole lot of cars dead on the road in this world.
The fact is, my father's '73 Plymouth vacuum controlled 3 speed auto performs far better than this peice of shit.
