Will I bend the Hell out of rims

I wanna get some 18 X 7.5 rims, am I gonna bend the hell out of rims if I go with some 235 45 tires. I see most people on here go with the 40's, whats up with that, I dont want to have to worry about every pothole that I hit, that 5 mm can be huge I think. Help me out with some opinions on your ride whoever has 18 inch rims...

People go with the 40's because it is the closest size to the original specs.

you'd have a better chance of NOT bending the rim with more sidewall (45) tire i'd think..?

225/40/18 ftw though. It looks hawt.

How far am I going to be off if I go with 45 tires, is it going to mess with my VSA or my ABS, what about my tire wear. I just aint sure what the hell to do so I dont go through the hassle of makin my car into a wobbling bent rim nightmare.

i went 225/45 after bending 3 or 4 rims with 235/40. well i didnt bend as often with the 45 sidewall, but it happened ONCE compared to 3 or 4.

and now i have 17s.

Thats what I needed to hear, I don't want to go through the hassle of having my rims fixed every other month because I want my car to be a "Pimp Ride". How about everyone else with 18's and 45 tires, what kind of luck have you had on some ugly Northeast roads. Your input is awesome, thanks for all the answers.

235/40/18 should be fine on 18 x 7.5" rim..That's what i have..and it's the closest to stock size...
I live in CT with lots of backroads and potholes...as long as it's not a ridiculously huge and deep pothole, you should be fine. Besides, if you go with 45 series, and you lowered your car, you will more likely rub on the rear

Mine rub once in a while if i have a full car

I am only sittin on the H&R OE, so I don't think I have to worry about rubbing. Saying that I don't rub, would the 45's affect my vsa, abs, or will they wear funny. I know the speedo will be off a tad, but I aint worried about that. I don't wanna go out and drop 2K on something thats gonna make my car more of a hassle just because they look nice. I need more input, thanks everyone who responded so far...

225-45-18's are within 2% of factory size. When doing plus sizing, + or - 2% is fine.

I wouldnt mind going iwth some 40's if I knew that they were going to be reliable and not bend my rims all the time. Is there a certain type of rim that I want to look for that is less likely to bend and is more durable. Also, how much do our stock 17 inch rims weight. Thanks again for all the help...
