Suzuka Master
Toyo T1S 235/45-17 on SSR 17x8
Still happy. Might try Goodyear F1-GS if I couldn't get the Toyos anymore.
Consumer Reports (online) excerpt:
Ultra-high-performance tires
Best for most; a well-rounded choice:
19 Goodyear $135
20 Toyo $190
Both models offer the best blend of wet and dry performance. Paying more for the Toyo (20) buys you better handling.
If ride comfort is critical:
21 Continental $170
It provides a smooth and quiet ride for this group.
The prices have changed (at least last time I looked), the Toyos can be had for cheaper (if you shop), the size used by CS = 215/45-17.

I have t1s' now and they aren't too bad. I had some SO3s before that kicked ass. I would of gotten them again but I got such a good deal on the Toyos

225/45/18 Bridgestone Potenza S-03...I love these tires. They handle great in the rain as they do on dry pavement. Won't buy any other tire for the summer months.

It's good to see that there are alot of people running the Yoko's. That's probably what I'll buy unless I go with a dedicated summer/winter setup.

Non-OEM Tires
Has anyone tried the Firestone Firehawk SZ50 215-50-17 on a 2003 CL-Type S (Six Speed)?
Every review of the OEM Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires by Acura owners is negative. I have over 32,000 miles on my tires and the they still look brand new. I can easily go 50,000 miles on these tires. The wear is even and there are no bubbles on the sidewalls (these items were mentioned in the reviews.)
That is the only good thing I can say about these tires. They don't handle worth a crap. They spin in all gears. They lose traction in turns on wet roads (I live in Florida for crying out loud...I need a tire that sticks!) They are "touring" tires on a supposedly "sport" car...yuck!
I want a tire that can take a turn on a wet road with a downshift to third...not second.
Opinons please...on the Firehawk and any others. Please state your driving habits...in other words those of you who drive cautious and safe need not reply.

Now I have the Michelin Pilot Sports in the 18 size and they are pretty good in the dry and the wet. Not good for winter around here though.
I have never been a big fan of Firestones. I went through quite a few sets when I had an Explorer (before the big debacle) and I could only get 18-20K out of them. I like Kumhos, Yokohamas, Bridgestone (even though they are owned by Firestone or the other way around). Goodyears are pretty dang good too. I just don't have a good feeling about Firestone.

Thanks, Apache
I am a little hesitant about Firestone myself. Without giving my age away, long before the Explorer disaster there was another incident with Firestone that almost put them out of business.
The Bridgestone tires are really long-lasting. My 2002 Maxima SE had 50,000 miles on it before they had to be replaced (Potenzas).
It's just that the Acura CL has such a weird tire size, and the options are few. I drive strictly highway (120 miles a day), so treadwear is usually not a problem. But, 20,000 is a little less than I want. Dunlops get lousy mileage, too. I guess the Japanese win (again!) I'll buy Toyo or Kuhmo next go 'round.
Thanks.

the conti's have 400 treadware rating. I beat the fucken shit out of the stocks, the fronts were gone at 8800 miles, partly cuz i waited to late to rotate. The conti's after 5k and one rotation are wearing pretty good. I expect 15k-20k out of them, which is very good compared to the damn stocks.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 235-45-17 on 17X8 SSR rims. They are ok tires. Seem quiet, & they stick well. I don't need all seasons but they came with the rims, so I'll wear them out. Had Toyo T1S tires 235-45-17's on stock rims, those tires were great. Had 2 sets. They will be my replacements.

Damn sticky, seriously aggressive tread pattern, excellent grip in the rain, stiff-stiff sidewall.
Downside--they get a flat spot overnight and need a few minutes to warm up before they get quiet. I love 'em though.
