I heard Dunlop's are good. My car is new, so I'm waiting for the day for new tires to come.

I'm with you too. I have only found 2 that "work" for out wheels. The OEM's and a goodyear model. the goodyear model (can't remember name right now) has a poor treadwear rating so that's out of the game.

My dealer cautioned me that it is important to match the speed rating and load rating for our car--for proper handling. They also said that the P235/45 R17 size is not safe on the OEM rims.

Anyone have success finding a tire that has the same characteristics as the Michelins but had equal or better treadwear and handling?

I just got 2 quotes for the Michelins...both were $191 ea.

Brigestone re730 or re930's are a great tire for the price.

Have a conversation with EricL. He can straighten out any misconceptions.

So a 235/45/17 would fit our OEM rims?

Did the dealer mention why the 235/45 R17 wouldn't be safe?? I am using Yoko AVS Db/s and love the hell out of them. A little wider than stock, but have not had any problems and they are providing the valuable rubber rim guard

According to several people the 235/45/17 may "fit" but it is not safe.

People have done it. You should check with the tire manufacture to see what they accept for a particular tire.

The rim/wheel width for that tire is 17x7.5. One person told me that there is an increased chance of it actually coming off the wheel. From what I understand the larger the tire (16" plus), the smaller profile puts more stress on the bead or the seal with the rim and if that fit is too lose, the tire can "fail".

Again this is just what I was told but I got the same story from the mechanic at the dealer, from a rep at BF goodrich, and two BF-recommended dealers.

Wow! that actually is very scary. Imagine losing a tire when your running 120+ ..... so I guess 225 would be a better width then.

I guess...I think it really stinks that we have such a limited choice of replacement tires.

There are quite a few of us who are running 235/45/17's on stock rims without any problems thus far, including me. Of all the tires that have been mentioned thus far on this board, only the Toyos come in the XL load rating similar to our stock....actually better than our stock, to my knowledge.

Ok, here is the deal:
I too went thru the lawyer hardship with the tire companies ! IF and ONLY IF your going to put 4 500 lbs women in your car and drive across the desert in the middle of August at 120 mph, THEN AND ONLY THEN MAY YOU HAVE A BLOW OUT ! Otherwise, I have 225-45-17 Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-03's on OEM rims and I LOVE THEM ! I haven't any issues to speak of........

Toyo Proxis or some Pirellis if you have the money...

I just got some Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's and they're great up here in the Northwest because they have good wet traction. They cost me $192.00 each installed.

Between these tires, which are the quietest and perform best in wet conditions??

Toyo T-S1
Potenza RE730
Perelli SS 7000

?

I'm leaning towards the the Potenzas right now.. but I know the Toyos are awesome..

HOLY CRAP! 192$/tire?

Man, I paid 101/tire, 25$ shipping and 40$ to mount and balance.

Total=465$

Or, about 117$ per tire.
