Which Tire to Pick ?

Which Tire to Pick

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Guys,
I think it is time to replace my original OEM Micheline Pilot MXM's. Actually I wa quite happy with them bisedes they are little bit harsh ride. Now if I want to but same tires I need to spend almost $1000. On the other hand I was reading the review and little bit resarch, it appears that I can buy similar tires ( May be better ones almost half price. Here is the questions have you tired any of the following tires ? And what is your opinion.

1- Falken Azenis ST-115
2- FALKEN ZIEX ZE-512
3- Bridgestone Turanza LS-V
4- Yokohoma Avid V4S
5- BFG Touring TA TR4

They are all 225 50 and 17"

I have 2002 Acura CL S type with Auto.

Thanks in advance.

Yokohoma Avid V4S Cheaper, quieter, smoother ride, better handling in the dry and a 500 tread wear rating, whats not to like? Unless you autocross, I can find no reason to go with any other tire. We had A LOT of rain here recently and they work well in it also. I LOVE THESE TIRES!

Thanks for the reply. I was originally get the yokos but I read in the reviews that they are noisy and slugish in the rain. What tires you installed originally on your Acura? were they Micheline ?

Thanks

Original tires on my 2001 CL-S were Michelin Pilot HX MXM4. Noisy these tires are not!!! One thing you have to keep in mind when reading a tire test, without a stop watch the differences between tires would not be noticed by most people. Sure there are better tires out there than the Yokohams for rain or dry handling. The V4S's are the best all around tire I have ever had in 39 years of driving. Now my old MR-2 would get tires that sucked in the rain and were lucky to last 15,000 miles, but that's a whole different story.

There is alot of discussion going on right now about replacement tires. I'm in the same boat. The Falken Ziex ZE512 looks great at about half the price but all the dealers I talked to all said Michelin was a better tire and I read a review that complained about being able to get good balancing on the Ziex. I'm a stickler for good balance, I don't want to feel the slightest vibration at any speed. The Michelin Sport A/S is rated by Michelin as noisier than the OEM and the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus has better life and quieter than the OEM but worst snow/ice which I want to be better in ice. The MXV4 S8 is the quietest and best snow of all but is more than 1 1/2 inches bigger in diameter. The shops around here said they could not recalibrate the Acura speedo for that much change, almost 7%. The Yoko Avid H4 is a great ride and quiet but got poor reviews for wet/ice. The Toyo Proxes TPT are a good tire but poorer in noise and ice. So I'm back to considering the OEM MXM4 which I think are noisy. If I was willing to spend the money I would buy good performance snow tires like the Mich X-Ice and get another set of the best summer only performance tires. The biggest cost to that as I see it is having to buy a set of 16 inch CL P wheels so the car still looks good. I wouldn't want just bare steel rims all winter. All of what I said is based mainly on reviews or ratings like CR. It's good to hear what the experience is from actual owners like on this board. Happy Shopping and thanks for any advice.

I just purchased a set of Falken ze-512, just installed them. They look great and the profile looks smaller in 215/50/17. Havent driven on them yet, but will update when I have a couple of k miles on them. not bad for $87 a piece SHIPPED!!

Were you able to get them balanced real good at high speeds(70-80mph)? Let me know how they ride. They sure are a good price, less than half of the Michelins.

Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S, treadwear is 400 would last you 40000 and then some, all season high performance tires, i think they range from 100 to 130 bux, i bought 18 inch ones from tirerack with a 2 year warranty for 125 a piece 215/40/18z, so i would suggest that the 17z are cheaper anyways these are by far the best tires all around.

I just bought/and installed the Falken zeix-512 on my CL and had major problems with balancing. The car kept pulling right even after an alignment. The problem deminished when I rotated one side, but I still noticed a slight right pull. It gets worse with higher speeds. I have heard from people that rotational tires tend to have this problem. Does anyone know? Has anyone with Falken tires experienced the same problems. So far this seems to be the only complaint that I have with these tires.

CLASSYCLS where did you order your tires?

Find a place that has one of these, they will balance any tire perfectly!

I have the Zeix 512s on my summer wheels and their great. Very quiet, great grip in wet and dry conditions, and they were the same price as the crappy stockers. I used these tires to autocross and they stuck to the ground. I have no problems with them pulling to one side. I can let the wheel go and the car will track straight. I highly recommend the Zeix 512s.

ordered from tires.com, you can negotiate a little. Had the car up to 80 constant and no vibration at all, VERY QUIET and SMOOTH. your tires might be out of line, check if you can get a replacement!

I was was looking for suggestions on tires about this time last month and a member here suggested the Kumho Escta ASX's which after some research I decided on. I purchased 4 new 215/40/17 and they are phenonminal. Traction is great, even better on wet roads. Theyre quiet and a great ride even with my car lowered. I have about 1000 miles on them so far and I couldnt be happier. I got them from tirerack.com, shipped including Road Hazard only came to a little over $400 which made the choice that much easier. I highly recommend

Werd to that. I just got a set a month ago. These replaced my stockers. they are a noticable improvement over stock- better traction, & quieter.

I just put on Falken Azenis ST-115 about 3 weeks ago. The 235-45/17 on stock '03 rims balanced fine. These tires are a lot better than the stock Michelins and they are very quiet. Driving at speeds of 80-90 is very smooth. After I got an alignment, they drove straight, except for the crown of the road.

The performed pretty well in wet conditions. It doesn't rain much here in AZ, but when it rained last week, it didn't slide at all like the stockies did before.

any of the tire suggestions above are valid except. one important safety consideration, choose a tire with a load rating of 93 or higher. not all sizes and makes meet this minimum.

I also have the Zeix 512s and they are wonderful. I think I notice a bit of a pull to the right side also. I may have to see about getting them balanced. The grip is phenomenal but I can still spin the front tires if Im too heavy on the gas.

Okay Finally I decided go with Falken Zeis 512. As of my first imression they are great. It feels more secure than the Micheline tires. They are quite and smooth and half price. I have paid $495 including mounting, balance, disposal the old ones and CA sales. I went to wheel works and they match the internet price.

I have only one concern car started to pulling right side and I think they messed up on aligment. I will bring the car back and let the redo the aligment.

I've had my Continental ContiExtremeContacts for over 40k with zero load rating issues (rated at 91)

I would suggest either the Conti's or the Pirelli's that someone else already mentioned. You can't get more bang for your buck anywhere than you can with either of those tires. I'm going to try the Pireli's next which should be within 2 weeks.

Looks like you live in the right place for snow. Let us know how they work after you get them. Snow is to play in, not to live in.

jersey shore area is really weird. we've had some winters where we didnt see a flake, then others that were classified as blizzard conditions.

so we'll see

I've got the Yokohama AVS ES 100s. I live in So Cal so I don't need all season, but we finally got some rain and they were great in the wet. A million times better than stock. Good luck.
