Rims and 01 CLS-TLS Similarity?
Hello all,
I just purchased a set of ROTA D2's 17x7.5 +45offset for my 01-CLS which do not fit on the front two rotors.
http://www.rotawheels.com/products.php?id=66
If you look at the spokes they come very far back to connect to the inner rim lip. When you go to try and put them on the rotor, the inner rim lip and the brake caliper touch, keeping the rim from being fully attached to the rotor.
Anyway the shop I bought them from is out of state and after talking with Rota they seem to think that a +35 should correct the problem. Before they send the replacments the shop has an 01-TL S that they could test them on.
My question is, just how similar are the rotor and brakes on the front end of a TLS to a CLS? Would it be a close enough test?
Also, what are the ramifications of having a +35 in the front and +45 in the back?
Lastly, anybody know just how close a +35 is going to sit to the out part of the wheel well?
Thanks in advance!

CLS stocks are 17x7 +55
TLS stocks are 17x 6.5 +55
They make a +48 offset in that size. I'm still not understanding what you mean. Got a picture of it?

NSXNEXT: Yes I do have some pictures however I have no where to upload them right now. I'll see if I can upload them some where.
fuzzy02CLS: The current set are +45s which do not fit. I've checked the rim and they are imprinted with a 45 marker on them. I would guess Rota just doesn't list that on the site.
brianlin87: The shop swears that a +35 would push the wheel out more.

The 48 should fit. I find it strange that Rota wouldn't list 45 on their site. You sure they are really Rota's & not knock offs? Call Rota & ask them.
35 will push the rims out past the fenders. +35 does not fit on a 2nd gen CL or TL.
They can test fit it on the TL. If it fits the TL they will fit the CL.
Something seems shady about that shop

I don't think some of you aren't getting what hes saying.
The profile of the spoke comes in to much and it is touching the caliper. So his current wheels with a +45 do not fit. The offset is to high due to the profile of the spoke to fit
You could try spacers to make them fit. You may need longer wheel studs though.
There is another wheel out there that looks like that and fits our car. I believe it is an SSR, which is better quality than Rota. Not sure though.

Fuzzy: Good idea. I called Rota and they do make a +45. The shop is Urban Import
Stealth CL: Trust me I searched and couldn't find anything that gave me any indication that they wouldn't fit.
MclarenF: Yup you've got the idea. You must be thinking of the SSR Professor SP1. They look the same.
So the lower the offset the more it gets pushed out to the car's edge?
Edit: Picture added

That's strange. I guess all your info is right on. Seems those rims just aren't a good fit for the car. I'd return the rims & get something that fits better.
The lower offset you get WILL push the rims further out past the fenders. If you lower the car you most likely will have rubbing issues.
You can get the spacers, that will fix it. How thick is the question. I'm not a fan of spacers.

Spacers prolly would fix it, but that would just push the wheel too far out.
Guess I'll chalk this one up to Rota making a wheel that just doesn't fit.
I'm going to return these and see what else is out there. Maybe just get 18's in the same brand. Although I'm not in the mood for spending another 700+ bucks on tires.
Thanks for everyones help!
